Read on Glen Hauser's DX Listening Digest that Bob & Judy Grove are retiring after 35 years. Which means Monitoring Times will be shutting down after December's issue. Along with Grove Enterprises. Guess only Ham Radio Outlet & Universal Radio will remain as sources for communications-related gear. ... It's back! Eton/Grundig apparently resurrected their G4000A portable receiver due to popular demand. Still has the same stellar qualities of its' Yacht Boy 400PE pedigree (& Yacht Boy 400 before that). Can be used as an FM tuner source in a pinch, too. Paul Emory used a G4000A as FM feed into his P.A. system during KVMR's recent 35th Birthday bash in Nevada City's Pioneer Park. Brian Lee's Colour Radio oldies show & Laura Miller's Diamonds & Rust never sounded better! 73s para Sactown!!!

I haven't seen a Monitoring Times in quite a while. Used to subscribe, to that and POP COM back in the day. Still have the issues around here somewhere. Picked up a YB400 a year or 2 back at a church rummage sale. It's a pretty good radio. Though for FM I still prefer my Panasonic RF-B60, though it does not do stereo. (nor SSB, for that matter.) Keep your eyes out for a Radio Shack DX-402, it's a similar size and shape as the Yacht Boy, and is also a pretty good radio. I found one in a thrift store for the princely sum of 5 bucks. My money says it was most likely manufactured by Sangean.
If it's new gear you're after, methinks you can sill get gear from MFJ Enterprises, and CCrane as well. I still like to pick up radios when I can, to add to the hoard--er, collection, though I don't do much SW listening these days...
good luck,

If cutting out the middleman lowers the price, why are we paying the government to stand between us and the markets?
You'd be money ahead, Realistico. Ratio Shaq's DX-402 was a re-badged Sangean ATS-505 which retailed for $129.95, according to Passport To World Band Radio's '01 edition. 'Twas a newbie then, too. Passport's verdict : "The best bet in a low-cost portable which demodulates single-sideband signals". ... One of late, lamented Radio Place's staffers used to call MFJ Enterprises "Maybe February or June, because you never know when their shipments will arrive". C Crane's still goin' strong up in Fortuna. 73s para Sactown !!!
