Anyone using this 300 ohm ribbon on there tuner?
Follow Ups:
Found out the Clearwave fm ribbon runs about $70 so staying with my Magnum Dynalab ST-2, outdoor installed off a 2nd story deck post. No problems with HOA here. ;)
Poor Mr. Bill has opened Pandora's box! If you look at http://fmfool.com/ you can get a pretty good idea how good or bad your reception situation is.
I use an outdoor antenna installed inside the attic of my house. Works great; my house has concrete roof tiles (common in Arizona). No HOA or zoning issues since they can't see it.
If, as the cliche goes, you can read in your yard by the lights of the tower the diminishing return on an antenna upgrade may be small.
Start at http://www.fmtunerinfo.com/ to learn about antennas.
Good luck!
Here's a good source or fm antenna information:

Found it too, thanks!
Seems for not a lot of $ one can do pretty good getting those radio air waves to our tuners. Case in point, with just a Walmart $5 special 300 ohm ribbon I do nicely in the bottom floor of my 3 floor townhouse just outside of DC. Plenty of meter strength and stereo channels to pick from. Guess if I lived in the boonies, I would probably feel different.

All unamplified 300 ohm ribbon T shape antennas are about the same. Buy one for $3 on eBay. Some persons cannot install an outdoor antenna due to tennant restrictions in a city.
I prefer a rabbit ear antenna vs a ribbon antenna. Rabbit ear looks same as those old TV indoor antennas. Two benefits of the rabbit ear antenna is the antenna can be rotated and the angle of the two antenna shafts can be adjusted. This is quite effective to reduce multipath & to adjust for maximum signal strength. The better rabbit ear antennas have a selector switch that matches the antenna to the tuner for best signal strength. In the basement of my radio room I receive about 30 FM stations with 15 at full quieting in stereo. An outdoor antenna would likely increase reception to 40 stations with 30 in full quieting. But, I do not need more than the 15 stations I receive well.
I use a solid-state FM tuner that is more sensitive & selective than tube tuners. I highly recommend an outdoor antenna with a tube type tuner for superior sonics and quiet reception.
Your very own FCC says these restrictions are - in principle - illegal.
I'd suggest that most people don't know /aren't told, how vital a good (ie directional with gain) antenna is and/or don't want to make the effort.
To suggest as Mapleshade do that being directional is a bad thing says it all about their standards in marketing.
That they imply that their rebuilds of a classic tuner / tuner stage in a classic valve receiver are 'Mapleshade special' - hiding that they are carried out for them by a conventional but respected technician - who could give you the same deal direct, is also instructive.
That it is even more important to drive a valve RF stage hard with a directional signal makes their approach even less respectable.

The FCC OTARD ruling only deals with local video. The backstory is allowing homeowners or renters to install satellite dishes for services such as DirecTV or DISH.
There are size and height limitations on these antennas.
If challenged, you'll have to convince your HOA that its a TV antenna.
The FCC probably does not have the authority to uverturn retained property rights of an owner. Can not remember the Bill of Rights article but, there is a prohibition against the Feds interfering with a contract. Congress would need to enact a law and overcome the prohibition in the Constitution. The bar would be quite hard as property rights related to real property is almost holy.
Governments have overcome certain bundles or rights such as setbacks, fence heights, zoning and so on but they established the governments need for them and that there were no alternatives with a lesser impact on the owner.
If I were the owner, I'd not sweat the FCC in this position. Like a police officer telling you that you are breaking a law that does not exist.
That is why one's signature means EVERYTHING.
Personally, I would never sign one... for anything.
These covenants are now appearing here in America when one wants to buy land.
People don't have to sign the thing...but if they want that particular land or live in some deed restricted community, it is part of the process.
I fail to see why anyone would want to own something only to have said possession dictated in how to use it.
We are assuming common sense here. Throwing out your trash in your front yard is NOT freedom, it is a health hazard and possibly environmentally harmful as well.

A rental is one thing, owning property with some control freaks poking around your business is not American. I would not buy-in either.
Tell that to the Association.....:(

Mine, or ours as in their?
This is an indoor antenna and no, with one exception (?) I wouldn't use any indoor FM antenna, unless I absolutely had to. The wave-lengths involved are too long.
I wonder IF you are interested enough to find out what good FM reception requires. ...... ?
I doubt that THEIR item will better the standard T-antenna mentioned by the other responder.
(?) go have a look around the FAQs here.
IF you have bought a 'mapleshade-modded ?' tuner, you are just pissing about unless you invest as much or more in a serious antenna.
'kay?

Being an ex ham I used to bounce signals via outdoor stacked beams off of the Aurora over the North pole with 25 watts of RF on 6 meters. I performed 6 meter skip to Australa too. So, DX is fun.
No doubt an outdoor antenna way outperforms an indoor antenna. But, if stuck with an indoor antenna one might as well have the best indoor antenna. An indoor rhombic is best, but hard to rotate. Next? I vote rabbit ears as easy to rotate and adjustable for lowest multipath.
BTW- I do not salute or am not the little joiner either! Heh, heh.
Never heard of it and can't find it on the Mapleshade site. Do you have any more info?
I use and like the C. Crane FM Reflect indoor antenna:
http://www.ccrane.com/antennas/fm-antennas/fm-reflect-antenna.aspx
http://www.amazon.com/C-Crane-FM-Reflect-Antenna/dp/B000EFHPKO
I couldn't find it either but did stumble upon this online.

Thank you for the C Crane website, at that cost, I might have to check them out for the short term till I get an outdoor unit.
