Is the 811 tube pin pattern the same as the 300B tube pin pattern? Both of my new PS Vane WE 300B Replica tubes will not fit into the right channel tube socket. It just won't click. It keeps popping up. I found this part in Cary Electronics (4pin Gold Ceramic vacuum tube sockets valve base For U4A 300B 811 audio amp). I'm wondering if this will work as an adapter and solve the problem. Thanks for your help.
Follow Ups:
I have had that happen with some chinese octal johnson clones. a few things to check.
how long are the pins of the tubes in question compared to a 4 pin tube that seats properly?
Do the bottom of the pins have more of a radius at the bottom on the tubes that don't seat?
Do all of the pin receptors on the problem socket have the same distance from the ceramic?
Are the parts that grab the pin all parallel to each other?
If you watch from the bottom as you insert a "good based tube" you will see the straight sides of the tube pin extend slightly beyond the "pincers" that hold it and when you look at the probelm base I suspect the rounded bottom of the tbe will not break the critical edge to get side engagement and the pincers will be trying to grab the rounded bottom of the pin and just force the tube back up as they close.

Thanks Dave for the very useful information.
Pretty sure they're not interchangeable. 811 has the A4-10 base; 300B is A4-72.Edit: The locating pins are different.

Thanks for the information. You saved me a lot of wasted time and money. Will G.
One pin on the socket is unused.
Thanks again.
