"Square" holes are the tell-tale sign for Svetlana 6550 tubes made in St. Petersburg. The tube logo was changed as you say to Winged "C". Then manufacturing stopped in 2011.The St. Petersburg are the ones you want/have.
Congratulations getting these excellent tubes with your purchase. Especially if they test as new.

The "square" holes were only present on the 6550C version. The earlier 6550B and others had small round holes in the plate.
The "square" holes were made to allow a screen alignment tool to be used at the factory. The early versions had a lot of issues with misaligned screens. the "C" version did not.
