I contact Jim McShane and he gave me two choice: a low noise GL 12AX7 or Sovtek 12AX7LPS. He said that the GLs are bit more sweet than the LPS which are more neutral. I order a pair of GL.
Regarding the tube coolers, he expressed the same surprise as some members of AA, but did not want to say anything more since he did not know what kind of coolers they were.
I did a little more digging and I think this is kind that is on the stock tubes. EAT is you know is the "high end" division of Pro-ject.
So still BS or legit? Also if I am getting low noise/micro chractertistics in a pair from Jim would that make using damper irrelevant? I have used Herbie's damper in the past, but do not have any on any of my tube gear presently.

Follow Ups:
Not BS, but still completely unnecessary, IMO.
I'm sure that to one degree or another it does what they say, but it's just not that crucial. More gimmick than meat. And more than likely the real reason is so you continue to buy only their tubes.
Maybe, the designer's intention was to protect PCBs from heat generated by the tubes?
