Anyone here an expert in tube identification? This el84 tube is branded Mullard, but the code seems to indicate its from the Ei factory in Yugoslavia.
Although KM4 seems to be made in Austria and Holland also.I'll never study egyptian hieroglyphics thats for sure.
Thanks for any help you can offer

Why even bother ??
Installing an unknown tube with unknown properties in an amp
is to take a risk of damaging the amp, some components much more
expensive then the tube.
Throw it away ( or sell it to some collector on epay) and buy
yourself a new el84 with warranty and possibly matched tube.
Because:
A) I want to learn
B) Because even if they aren't original they sound fantastic and it would be good to have a back up set of tubes at lower cost
Warranty? Who provides a warranty on 40 year old tubes? There are obviously some online sellers that are better than others but its kind of a crap shoot.
Warranty is offered by several seller for new production tubes.
EL84 is new production both from slovakia and russia. There is no
need to use old tubes that has no known history and might even
be defunct or substandard.
The amp was voiced with Mullards by the maker....I only want to hear what he heard.

It's funny you say that. Back in the day when I began exploring tube audio the Ei and Tesla varieties were dismissed as being inferior to Mullard, Amperex, Sylvania, GE and not worthy the time. Though still available the prices for these out of production tubes were going up. As they got more expensive and more importantly harder to find suddenly Eastern European tubes from the recently opened up communist block were all the rage and en vogue.
It sucks to get old. It really sucks to get old and bitter.
Even the yugo tubes are getting pricey!
the code shows "Ei" factory origin.N.
Just smile - it confuses other people.

Thanks for confirming
Not an expert, but found a thread regarding an EL84 KM4 made in Yugoslavia.
Tube authenticity starts the thread.
After that gets sorted out, there is some current draw concerns regarding the Yugo tube which may or may not be relevant to you.
Unfortunately I cannot verify.
Here's hoping for some AA calvary regarding further thoughts.
Cheers!
