What people are willing to pay sets prices. Has nothing to do with a seller unless they have a monopoly.
Follow Ups:
Most people would pay more for the same item from a reputable seller, who provides value and service.
Every time someone purchases through Amazon Prime without first checking for an (often) lower price on another site proves my point. Amazon is a known company, ships items immediately, and has a 0 questions asked return policy. To most people these shopping features are more important than absolute lowest price.
Tubes are no different. Would you buy a set of tubes from an unknown seller, just because the price was lower than another seller who has a good reputation in the market ?
Some people would take their chances, most would prefer reasonable certainty.
not sellers. Quality old manufacture tubes are priced a lot higher than new manufacture regardless of the seller or amazon. Buying either from a good seller is a good idea.
Yes chips
this is the point .
Just to make an example :i have several el34 sed =c= quuartets
that i could use ;now they are expensive and seem to be the
latest big thing among "new" production el34's.
They are now considered Nos and very sought after.
I prefer to use Genalex kt77 or Mullard el34 reissue :i found them
more "overall" satisfyng and complete than the now"nos"old svetlaana
from St.Petersburgh;i am not saying that they are bad ,no,i 'm just
saying that sometimes they lack in punch and somewhat "slubby"on
bass;winged c are marvellous on acoustic jazz and guitar ,voices
but sometimes soft on other kind of music .
If you only listen acoustic or baroque music ,you''l may find them
perfect .
I am a 360° music guy and i don 't want to listen to tubes ,i want to
listen to music .
So i find nos mullard xf2 lacking in some departs so they do old
Sylvania 6ca7;don't take me wrong:they are marvellous tubes ,but
they don't hold on with all the music aound in 2017.
I think "now"tubes are more complete in this respect.
This is my experience (my last listening :the complete Beethoven
sonata dy Andreas Schiff, but now i am listening to the last album
by Sam Amidon)
With modern prodution you have the chance to have very well matched
tubes ,while is very difficult ,now ,with nos;and if you have the
chance to meet fine matched nos quartet ,you pay silly price .
You can find Rft el34 quartets at reasonably prices ,but i
don't think they will better modern production .
So ,at he end ,in 2017 you are going to pay too much for nos power
tubes .
That is what i meant.
Regarding signal tubes ...is another story.
This is my experience after a 30 years old love story with vacuum
tubes
