It is mentioned many times the new Russian Tung Sol 6V6GT is as good or better than NOS tubes. At least in a single-ended amp that is not the case.
I compared the Tung Sol to a vintage Jan Hytron 6V6GT. The Russian 6V6GT is harsh and uneventful compared to the Hytron 6V6GT. The Hytron is crystal clear, lush and involving. Hell, I can even hear the difference in my Hammarlund SP-600 ham radio set.
Perhaps the Russian 6V6GT is better in a PP amp, it loses immensely in a SE amp with Hytron 6V6GT tubes. I suspect the same outcome in SE guitar amps too.
Follow Ups:
It has been posted here many times by our old friend Poindexter that in his very highly developed push-pull amps (the "Musical Machine") he found the Tung-Sol reissue was the "best" tube. Many others agree.
So your post's title is a bit misleading. There may be other tubes that are "better" in SE applications - but that BY NO MEANS invalidates what Poinz and many others said. And possibly in a different SE circuit or at different operating voltages, currents, etc., the Tung-Sol would perform better in your opinion, I don't know.
So maybe a more concise title could be " New Russian Tung Sol 6V6GT best sound? Maybe NOT in every circuit ".
That's my opinion anyway, FWIW.
Jim, I built the Poindexter amp. Then, I improved it. I sent the info to Eric Kingsbury. He raised the audio transformer primary impedance per my recommendations, but did not follow up with the other mods.
My modified 6V6 triode connected outperformed his amp- no contest. His amp as mentioned in the 6 Moons review had a somewhat unclear presentation. I agree, it did. But, still sounded ok. Unfortunately, his amp likely could not distinguish much difference in 6V6GT tubes. My modified amp way outperformed his amp & I heard all the details clearly. I went to Sylvania CHS 7C5 as the plate is same as Sylvania 6V6G that were the best sounding tubes, but horribly expensive.
So, I hope I cleared up any misunderstanding here.
Sony6060,What was your improved schem., if you don't mind posting it?
Thanks!

AKA, VT-107B. These are most awesome tubes. A certain Princeton Reverb I worked on, has a nice matching pair.

I love the Coke bottle tubes in 6L6g and 6V6g types. What do you run for a hifi amp?

Rebiased to around 12-13 watts per tube, idle dissipation. Last amp was an original AB763 circuit blackface Twin Reverb. The coke bottles made for a much nicer midrange, than the OEM 6L6GC.
They certainly, don't make them like that anymore!
I am sure those are quite expensive, but other vintage 6v6 tubes are very cheap. Metal 6v6 are at give away prices.
Yes, the Sylvania 6V6G are awesome.
My favorites are the Raytheon GTY, Sylvania VT-107A, and RCA gray glass. But, so many other good old USA made ones.
