These are a pair of my Grommes 260A amps.I have a 50uf film cap off the GZ34s and I am using adapters on the 6384s.I did change the lytics out to Authenticaps and on the right side but I may go to an all film cap supply in these because there is loads of room.I have k40ys on the output tubes and Solen Film and tin foil on the input.I bought the adapters but these tubes in these amps are simply spectacular. The clarity and imaging is so good because of the lowered screen voltage for these tubes. They can take up to 750v or 800v as I recall.

Beautiful tubes! Wish I could afford to buy some!

Buy Chinese. Bury freedom.
You can buy them new old stock for 50 dollars each if you check around and this is from a couple of dealers. There is also a version with the cap on top but these tubes have a refinement that is a lot like the TS 6550 solid black and gray plates. They love regulated screens even tho the Grommes doesn't have a regulator with a common element.

I noticed that prices are not as high on all the auctions. Interest does not seem as keen as it used to be and there are some bargains to be found if you are patient.
They say it's used but for that price I'll take a chance I did with the last one I got for 30usd.

Why aren't all tubs made like this. "To withstand 500G of acceleration" for instance simply and truly amazing!
.
Because they were developed as a HD replacement for the 6AR6/6098 tubes...used in the guidance systems for our ICBMs. If a rocket is subjected to a tremendous amount of G-force, which it is, and travels WAY up into the atmosphere..it has to be able to take the punishment. There is no room for error in that application...hence the extreme requirements for that tube.
For a less expensive audio alternative, I'd suggest the 6AR6/6098. Just be aware of the lower screen rating compared to the plate. Raytheon made some beautiful 6AR6's. They look just like a TungSol 5881/6L6WGB but obviously are not the same animal!

MONEY!
Bendix went from zero to hero in a very short amount of time. The "Red Bank" types were intended for the severest kind of military service. Only the "blank check" on the U.S. Treasury made available to the Military by Congress could fund that sort of product.
I guaranty you "ordinary" folks back in the 1950s were not about to pay $10, let alone more, for the 5Y3 "equivalent" 6106. For the time frame, serious money.

Military tubes had to be extra tough. We used tube-powered radar in our combat aircraft in the 1950's and 1960's until the aircraft industry went solid state. SS equipment was much lighter in weight, which on aircraft was extremely important. Don't know if the SS equipment was any more reliable than the tubed equipment, but the Soviets (think MiG's) relied on tubed aircraft radar at least through the end of the 1970's. They claimed that tubes were more reliable than transistors for their purposes.
Probably a good reason for the continued popularity of mil-spec tubes among certain audiophiles.

The inner structure makes a TS 6550 look under-engineered. IIRC, very heavy tubes.
Those are GREAT tubes. I redid a Twin Reverb to take those tubes. This was a long time ago. Like 1990. I think that amp is still using the same tubes. Very reliable. Great tone!
I did not like the adapters. I could hear some blurriness in the sound that was not there when i used a regular 6l6 type. Maybe, it was a poorly made adapter, which i would not be surprised. Who did you get yours from?
have made my own adapters with good wire, for years. But recently got some from Hong Kong that are very good but like my own because I know the type of wire I use and no mini PCB.
