The Ultimate Tube System (in my book).If had had the money, I wouldn't think twice.
(BTW, Audio Note fans... There is now (finally) a site wich shows ALL current Audio Note products, technical papers, philosophies, product specifications, reviews etc. See www.audionote.in).

to pacify Peter Qvortrup. :)
It's simply an 'ultimate cost' tube system.Bling aka jewelry.
For that kind of money I'd want i) high bit rate DSP for ii) the room, iii) phase and timing, and iv) at least surround sound, for SACDs
and v) a near acoustically transparent screen on rollers and a very quiet projector, and LBNL vi) a guarantee of 16Hz cleanly and at full power in the room.And I could get all that for <$20K new. Less for used and rethought.
Four QUAD 63 USA Mon. rebuilt, plus dipole subs.

I love the speakers,but if I was going to go with new amps it would be VTL,MAC,or Atmasphere as my choices and not necessarily that order.

No way.
Now this is the ultimate tube system .... be sure to take the virtual tour.

Apparently, nobody has read your book.

I don't know how familiar you are with this place but those amps are not Serious Stereo 2A3 or designed by DoctorLow Mu so can only be classed as 'mid-fi'...
Not DIY either . Audio Note is not my cup of tea , those speakers are just copies of the old Snells

Might be great (in spite of the cost); might be meh. Depends ultimately on those speakers. Has anyone heard the field coil phono cartridge? Dave?
I once had the experience of hearing the AN Kegon and the Ongaku in the same day, same room, same system, driving AN speakers. My impression was that both amplifiers sounded very good, but they sounded quite obviously different from each other. That bothered me.

What bothers you about that?
It only shows that achieving 'Musical Ecstasy' (for everybody) is not exact science and that its more like making Wine. Which is of course why we're all in sill into this 'hobby'.
If it would be exact science, we all would've ended this hobby in 1982 when Sony introduced the 'perfect sound forever' CD-Player...

If the amps were from 2 different companies then sounding different would not bother me. But from the same company they should be voiced similarly, especially at the prices of these amps. Otherwise the designer either wasn't good enough to make them sound similarly or hasn't decided what voicing is closest to accurate reproduction.
It's just another over priced over hyped tube gear paired to the unbelievably expensive and harsh horn loudspeakers!
I think the word like "pinnacle / ultimate / state of the art" is used every time the ultimate cost that comes with them needs to be justified.
plus 1!
Hi!I would take your post very seriously if:
1) You have experienced this system;
2) If you have any knowledge about the material-cost, manpower and ingenuity invested to create this system;
3) Have any idea about the extend of the modifications made to these 'harsh horn' speakers (which of course you should have experienced too), and how they are actually matched to this 400 sqm listening room.Please enlighten me about your, undoubtedly, deep insights so that I can form an opinion about how serious to take your reaction.
Thanks,
NC
