Do you guys remember when I used to be crazy about this tube and still am when you buy them from Penta or a regular Shuguang dealer. These are the same tubes but I'm questioning the Ebay ad because GEC was long gone out of the tube business when these tubes came out but look at the inconsistency of the
GEC lettering and how it's placed on the tubes.I'm not saying these tubes don't sound great because they do however, you can't disregard the fact that these may be rejects from Shuggie or Penta so someone maybe tried to relabel them in a bad way just to impress a quick buck. The seller may not even be aware of this.

I totally remember. I almost got a friend to retube his Sunn 2000s bass amp with a set. BTW, do they still make those?
Here you go.If I was going to spend this kind of money,I would get the Shuggie Treasures KT88Z

Cool. I'll check em out sometime. I'm using a set of the same thing as the RUBY 6550A-STR in a 70's Marshall and like em. I've read em being marketed as a GE 6550A clone. I also like the RUBY 12AX7AC7 HG in some amps both hifi and instrument amps. I have em labeled golden dragon and a few other things.

You would like the Genelex reissue KT88s as well.Jim McShane has the best ones because nobody can match and test the way he does and do it at full operating voltage which is important.

Michael, the solid plate Shuggies are still available! The tubestore.com has commissioned a run from the factory now called The Preferred Series KT88. They say it is exactly the same tube as the Penta Labs KT88SC. Even comes with a 6 month warranty! Great sounding tubes that have never given me any trouble.
The black treasures and Psvanes, on the other hand have been nothing but trouble for me in my Rogue amp. Maybe it is the high plate voltage on the Rogues, these new fancy Chinese tubes just can't seem to take it.
Mike, I know that this is off topic but do you mind if I contact you sometime and pick your brain about a grounding issue that has been driving me nuts?
Back on topic. I've only heard the GL reissue one time and that was in a bass amp I cleaned and biased etc for a friend but it was way too late to let it fully rip. They did sound more mellow than the Sovtek 6550we's they replaced though.
I never knew there were ever solid plate GEC KT88 replicas made. If I was still into push pull KT88 amps, then I would stock up on these babies. The real ones had the best sound of all KT88s.

Big speakers and little amps blew my mind!
I have a ton of the original GEC and Genelex KT88s. Yes,Shuggie makes a solid plate replica as does EAT.
It's strange about the vintage Genelex/GEC KT88s.They sound clean but they don't sound alive.
