I had a quad of the Black Treasure 6CA7s in my Rogue Cronus. They were very seductive for a while but ultimately I found the highs too rolled off and the lower end to be too truncated and soft. That seems to be the case with most EL34 based amps although the Dodd Mono 120s my friend had for a time did not exhibit those weaknesses. I wonder if there are other amps out there like that. The Manley 250s perhaps? In any event, I love the KT66s in my Cronus Magnum, more than any other tube including: 6L6GCs (even NOS RCA & Sylvanias), 6550s (including NOS GE), KT77s, KT88s, and KT120s. Their extended frequency response and even frequency balance is unmatched IMHO. I have owned or had in my system close to a dozen tube amps. The KT66 is the tube I come back to.
I wish someone would make a high quality, reasonably priced amp specifically for the KT66s, putting out around 50 wpc (I know about the Leben but it's too rich for me).

this is the tube that is used the Heathkit W5Ms which are an incredible amplifier. As good as the KT66s sound,I like the 6L6gc Black Plate RCAs more in these amps.

The KT66 shines best for amps that are dedicated to 6L6GC tubes with fixed bias (manually adjustable). It also sounds lovely as a triode in Class A operation.
I have a pentode triode switch on my VTA. And pentode sounds better in my case.
The KT66 sounds very good W5m and it is probably more accurate with the KT66 as it was designed for that tube.I like the 6L6GC black plates because they offer a bit more relaxed sound.I actually love both tubes tho.
