Hey thanks Steven - appreciated. I ordered a pair for kicks just to check them out.
Best,
Jeff

Jeff, which brands of rectifiers will you be comparing the Pref Series to?
You have the right to be offended, and I have the right to offend you. But no one has the right to never be offended.

Hi Steven,
A number of different brands: NOS Tung-Sol, Sylvania, RCA, etc. (but no Western Electric), as well as some new stock Chinese versions, and a few other misc. tubes as I run across them. They may be 274b, 5u4g, 5R4GY, 5Z3PA, etc. I've run across one cheap Chinese rectifier that is really good and cheap. Hard to find though.
I may include some Mullard (or RCA) 5A4/GZ34 and others people have recommended as well. Just trying to do a nice little cross section with the only criteria being that it is a 5 volt rectifier drawing no more than 3 amps of filament current.
So far it's been interesting ... some sound really good, but don't play music that well, where others don't 'sound' as good, but play music really well.
Kind regards,
Jeff
