Are there any rules of thumb regarding NOS 2A3 bi-plates with respect to sound quality? RCA's and especially the VT military spec command a premium but should I be looking for certain internal structures like box plates, etc.?
Forum searches haven't turned up anything definitive (although it seems box plates are a good thing)
Obviously I'm disregarding the rare, delicate and expensive monoplates.
Follow Ups:
I've seen so many with Slyvania and RCA brands. They are pricey these days, though, up around $200/each, so the fall back is the RCA blackplate. Neither sounds as good as the EML hard plate, but it's up around $350/pair
Observe, before you think
Look for RCA black plates. They are more extended and more linear to my ears than the grey plates. The black plates were made earlier, though I'm not sure what year they switched over to grey.
