Anyone using these tubes? Are they as good as what's been written about them. How do they compare with the Sovtek 12AX7LPS or the Tung Sols?
Just Wondering,
Sam

When I owned a Mac C2300 preamp, the Psvanes were really nice--extended, harmonically rich, with good bass--the best current production 12AX7s I tried in there, and better than Tung-Sols and Mullards. I also liked them more than most of my expensive NOS 12AX7s in that preamp. Didn't try the Sovtek LPS, though. In the phono stage of my current preamp, a VAC Phi Beta, however, the Psvanes are fat, slow, and rolled off. I have three pairs and expected good things because the stock VAC tubes are obviously of the same construction (and probably from the same factory), although with steel rather than gold pins, but they sound completely different.
In the VAC, the Sovtek LPS are by far the best I've tried--clean, extended, balanced, dynamic, and extremely quiet. In fact, I prefer them to all the NOS tubes in my collection, including Tele rib-plates, RCA long black plates, and Amperex med grade. And I like them more than current production Tung-Sols, Mullards, JJ ECC83-S, Svetlana, and others. Jim McShane selected some really nice, super quiet ones for me. I like them so much I stocked up.
So you really have to take the plunge and try a few if you want to be sure.

They were a big improvement over the stock Sovteks in my Rogue Audio Cronus. What others said, it added more resolution, extended and tightened up the highs and lows and provided a much more fluid sound. Thumbs up!

They aren't bad, a bit over hyped IMO, but not bad for current production tubes. They are a little on the warm side of neutral.

Psvane vs. Tungsol -- seemed to be more extended, highs were more liquid and cymbals have a wonderful shimmer. Bass was deeper and better defined.
Tungsol aren't bad but the Psvanes were better straight out of the box. No complaints. I have 12AX7, 12AU7, 12AT7 sets and the EL84 series and all seem remarkably consistent and reliable.
