Hi Guys,I would like your opinion on the value of an original Marantz Tuner Amp and Preamp which I belive is the 7 and 8 series. It belongs to an elderly friend of my father's who was a personal friend of Saul Marantz and the gentlemen says its serial number is 0002! The set is in mint condition and is used regularly. The gentlemen is in his 80's or 90's and his grandson seems oblivious to the potential value of the system. I am afraid that it will be sold for pennies at a garage sale in a few years and would like to apprise the grandson of its value.
I assumed you were talking about the models 7C and 8B. However, on rereading your post you may also be referring to the Model 2s and other pieces. I think it would be most productive to get the actual model numbers and then we can be of more assistanc.
The Model 7c(tube not solid state) can fetch up to $3500-$4500 on Ebay and the 8B (assuming not an 8)will bring in about $1200-$1800. This is pretty much the top end so your friend's could be a bit less depending upon several factors including but not limited to cosmetics, sonic problems, upgrades, etc. Personally, I think you should let it go for pennies in a garage sale and give me the address immediately. :-)
Thanks Danny... I wouldn't mind seeing myself at a grage sale but he's a great old gentlman that odnated millions to the local college I attended and I know the estate will be donated to charity. I'll do some more research and thanks for taking the itme to answer my question!
