I bought this amp a couple weeks ago or so and its actually nice shape inclduing the transformers and but the chasis was bent a bit not allowing all the tubes to go in .I took an adapter on my 20 ton press I use when I rebuild automatic transmissions and transfer cases for 4wd and I was able to straighten it out enough to where the amp actually works perfect..I got the original type el37s which one had a broken guide pin,no big deal but it has these two made in gt britain rect gz34s and I know these cant be mullards even if they say that. They say F31 and B8F under that and they have mo hole in the guide pin.Are these the Jap Mullards? Are they anygood as far as durability? It looks like my other gz34 real mullards with the hole as far as the bottle goes but the base looks totally different.Who knows about these?
Follow Ups:
I have both but prefer the metal base though the fat base is also excellent sounding.

I'm not an expert, but those are the real deal. That tube is commonly know as a large base Mullard.Late 50s, early 60s production. I believe it was a transitional model between the metal base GZ34 and the smaller base GZ34. I'm sure one of the Mullard gurus can fill in the details.
VERY nice tube. Here's one I picked up at an estate sale.
YES
Thats what they look like but they are later than the 50s and 60s because the xf1 mullard gz34 I have has a large base with a hole in center pin and these dont..See if yours have the hole in them..
The metal base ones were made by phillips even tho mullard and amperex both marketed them..If you look at the metal base ones they have no ribbing in the plate structure as the mul/amp ones did and they were all made in holland I think.
I like these better then the metalbase Mullards.
Great find, enjoy, and yes they are Mullard, only now every mamaluke with a GZ34 without a hole in the guidepin will be claiming it is a Mullard Fatbase.

I do have a fat base mullard along with at least 28 genuine gz34 and these look more like the ones made today..Im dead serious.
Michael- HOK is right. June 1958 Blackburn Mullard production for the one you describe. Some but not all genuine f31 specimens totally lacked a center guide hole, just as some but not all contemporaneous big base Xf1 EL34s did. All of the later Blackburn made small base f32 GZ34s (and EL34s, Blackburn Xf2, Xf3, Xf4) had the holes, though.

I typed a word wrong..These do not have the hole in the center pin and all the mullards of the 50s and 60s did..I know these have to be later because they dont sound that good..It was my mistake tho because I forgot to put the word dont in for the hole in center pin.
I think I followed you. But it is definitely not the case that all authentic 1950's Blackburn made big base Mullard GZ34s had a hole in the guidepin, even though many did and you may well have some others that have the hole. Ditto for late '50s Blackburn made Mullard EL34s. You can bet the farm on that.
