Mates,I have just had an email from the wife of our Tubes Asylum friend "Ruffscruff" and I'm very sorry to say that he is not doing well after a long illness. -It seems there is not a lot of time left.
Though I've never met Fran, we have corresponded for a couple of years, talking about our common interest in Audio Research and audio generally, but eventually we chatted about everything under the Sun and I was the beneficiary of his solid and practical personality. I've come to regard him as a real friend- bright and enthusiastic, kind and generous.
I'm very saddened by this news and thought if those of you that know Fran might send an email to "Ruffscruff" through the Asylum, perhaps his wife could read some messages to him.

Ruffscruff - Real tube and audio expert.Best wish to Fran.
I'm sorry to hear this as well. I came to know Fran simply from posting a question here about good 12AT7 driver tubes. He picked up on my thread and emailed me personally to loan me some various extra 12AT7's including a few of his favorites (the RCA 6679's) he had in his stash. He shipped them to me to try out and then told me to keep them when I indicated I liked what I heard.Nice guy. We corresponded for awhile and I learned of his love for the B-3 Hammond (which he plays) so I sent him some B-3 jazz from Blue Note as a way of saying thanks. I wish him and his wife the best. He's a true gentlemen.

Wow, that's really a shame... I only knew Fran from here, but every "conversation" we had was a real pleasure. I always felt like he'd been a friend for many years. I wish him well, and I wish him peace.
