Here is the latest - REALJAZZCAT is now including the following in his "gold-pin" tube auctions (and I quote):"MATCHED PAIR of TELEFUNKEN ECC83 12AX7 Ribbed Plate tubes with enhanced gold pins"
Since this is somewhat ambiguous, let's be clear about this: he is admitting that he gold-plates the pins. It's probably as close to a confession as we are going to get from him that his 40+ prior fake "gold-pin" auctions were a scam.
Of course he may pull the above quote from his auctions at any time.

Follow Ups:
"enhanced" out of his description. With almost 500 hits and no bids, it was just a matter of time. You can bet that the first "legit" bid will be coming soon.
so his moniker is still appropriate.

Don't you see its fury and has blue eyes?
Oh and its looking at me!

Yes me being British, spelling is not my forte.
My max bid on his items would be ZERO. In fact, if they were sent free, I would refuse & mark return to sender as I do not support anything but the most straight forward & honest postings on eBay.
Almost all of his fake/gold-plated pin auctions are PRIVATE BIDDER auctions. In my opinion, you have to be border-line INSANE to bid on a private bidder auction. Most people realize that shill bidding does take place on eBay. I don't know what the percentage is of auctions with shill bids. However, I would bet that percentage increases by at least a factor of 10 on private bidder auctions.
Now the private bidder thing is not an across the board shill bidder thing. You could of course wish to remain nameless when bidding on some things. you ought to be able to flag your own privacy, not require/allow the seller to do it, IMO.

Douglas
Hi guys
I have done a search at eBay and found a pair of Telef ECC803S. I think these are the right stuff.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43375&item=3090616446&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
These came with gold pins.
Then I ask myself: Is it 12ax7 tubes in the photo at REALJAZZCAT's ebay ad?
I am no expert, but they do not look like any Telef ECC83 to me. Looks more like 12au7 tubes.
And I have never seen Telef ecc83 tubes with gold pins.
I have Telef ECC801S and ECC802S and these were not made with gold pins. To my knowledge only the ECC803S were made with gold pins.

Nice !
she or whatever looks more like a transexual.
Fairly healthy looking woman, but I do not need the hassle myself. I am sure the young guys would state 'speak for yourself'.
It still says:"Various Gold Pin Tubes flown-in weekly from Germany!"
At the bottom of his auction page -- isn't that still misleading in that it kind've implies that they are gold when they are flown in?
This guy's a complete dirtbag -- notice how he artfully takes photos with Mc gear in the shots and gold relections on the valve glass to make it seem like the tubes are more than reasonably good, albeit, standard Tele tubes. My radar would prob. be up even without your fine detective work. An what's with the anime "boobie-chick" on the very bottom of the page -- another misdirection? These tubes look fantastic when rolled between this siren's animated boobies!
Exactly the same things I have noticed. Especialy the "GOLD lighting" used to accent the gold pins.
Also it now seems that he is selling almost all his tubes with gold pins.

> At the bottom of his auction page -- isn't that still misleading in that it kind've implies that they
> are gold when they are flown in?Sure Marc, his descriptions are misleading, ambiguous and the most ridiculously HYPED tube auctions ever. Especially when you consider that they are for nothing more than standard Telefunken 12AX7s. The hype alone should raise a few RED-FLAGS.
I think that word has gotten out, his "Glory-Days" are over.
I'm new to tubes, but didn't Telefunken make 12AX7s with gold plated pins anyway? If not, then I stand corrected.Maybe I'm slow or I didn't read his auctions entirely, but his description of "enhanced gold pins" may mean nothing more than this pair is an upgraded 12AX7 over the standard regular pin Telefunken 12AX7s, nothing more. I assume that a knowledgable Telefunken buff would know for sure if this is a scam...how could this seller gold-plate these pins? Looks like standard Telefunken build quality to my untrained eyes (meaning excellent).
You can read anything and misinterpret the meaning, or maybe the seller shouldn't have used the word "enhanced" in his descriptions, seeing that some people feel he's gold-plating his tubes, while all along he's selling the genuine article...I dunno. I don't know this guy, nor have I ever delt with him or his auctions. But I like to give the benefit of a doubt. His eBay feedback isn't too bad; the only 3 negs he got seem to be from buyers who also misinterpreted his wording. Maybe his only fault is that he needs to word his auctions much better.
Just my opinion, nothing more. Maybe he is a fraud, who knows? It's hard to trust anyone these days...
Gerry called his post an update as we've been following the RealJazzCat Tele auctions for a while -- The seller has claimed that they are a rarely found "military tube" that Tele produced with gold pins and that he has them couriered here from Deutschland on a regular basis -- also that they are rare, valuable and offer much enhanced sound properties to more commonly found Teles - as Gerry just alluded to, the wording on these current auctions has the language about the origins of the tubes and the gold-plating, toned down quite a bit as compared to what he was saying a few weeks ago - on the current auction you can see his German shipping packaging, etc. but is means nothing and is prob. for effect.Thing is, no one can confirm that Tele ever made 12ax7s with gold pins or that they are anything other than normal Tele tubes --
Gerry also discovered that the seller uses a different ebay name and buys small quantities of gold -- osthensibly to plate the pins after he gets them -- Now i am not 100% certain that he is full of s**t -- but the money he has gotten from recent auctions of these questionable tubes is SERIOUS CASH.
Furthermore, a few weeks back, when Gerry and others have asked him to clarify where he gets the tubes and to clear up a little bit about their origin, the JazzCat has been very evasive and downright HOSTILE.
Point is, big dollar auctions of questionable, "found rare stock in a foreign land" kinda products are subject to scrutiny if no one with any experience here has ever heard of them before -- we scrutinized, and he freaked out and denied any wrongdoing.
Also, for rare tubes, he sure does seem to sell a lot of them.
Gerry E. could elaborate on this - but we've been over it a bunch of times and you are only coming in at the tail end.
Just do a little background here on this subject and you'll find many of the posts.
You're right, I came in late on this entire subject. Seeing that the seller has been observed by other inmates here concerning his questionable auctions justifies the close scrutiny of his selling practices. For that, I do stand corrected. If this seller is indeed pawning off modified Telefunkens as authentic gold-pin 12AX7s to unsuspecting nubes (like me), then I hope he's caught and expelled from ever selling on eBay again.
Hi I read your posting.I just would like to make one comment. If your an individual it would be OK for you to tell your friends where you bought the tubes. However if you are a dealer its top secret as to where your tube sources are.
However I have a feeling that the supply of ECC801S is getting rarer for dealers in the USA as prices for this type of Tube goes up on a regular basis.
I do not know much about Telefunken regarding factory manufacturing techniques, however seller has a history of 'snake oil' tactics per other posts.
Jimmy,All of these highly touted series TFK's which I've seen have had steel pins. Internal frame grid construction giving the 80X series the distinction over the "normal" ECC8X series.
I think that Siemens and Philips E8XCC gold plated some their pins. But, heck if I can hear any difference between tubes with same electrical characteristics---gold plated pins or not.
Heck the "Only" advantage of gold plated pins is to keep them from rusting/oxidizing while sitting on the shelve in their box. Another thing I have noticed is that these "rare" tubes do not seem to even come in the original box. He always shows pics of the tubes but no boxes.
