Anyone using all tube amps for home theater? And if so does it sound more dynamic?
Follow Ups:
I'm too cheap and movies aren't as important as 2 channel. I bought a budget 5 channel amp for HT and share the main speakers in the integrated HT/stereo system. It's a pain swapping the speaker cables when switching between sources but I don't want to waste tubes on movies/football/baseball.....etc.
Cary P7 preamp driving
McIntosh 240 (with Groove Tubes KT66) for Maggie 1.5 left and right front
ASL Wave 8 for Hornshoppe (left and right rear)
Quad 303 (solid state) driving JMLab Cobalt (center) and Ohm SB-4A subwoofer).Very musical with good imaging for stereo/SACD/DVD-A and plenty of power for small listening room.
I use a Music Reference RM-200 for L&R fronts,Music Reference RM-10's for Center[Switched on Mono 70 watts rms]and rears[Stereo 35 watts per].NO sub needed.I'm totally set up for SACD Music and concert DVD listening. Stunning Sound !!!Movies sound great to.I could care less about loud explosions thus no sub.My mains go down to 19HZ,good enough for me.JD
Ed,I use Mac amps, MC275 for left and right, MC275 in mono for center channel, MI200 for subwoofer, and a SS MC2105 for the rears. The pre amp is a MX134 Mc running 1.307 software for additional DPL II adjustments. The system is used for music both two and multichannel the most, then TV sound and maybe one or two DVD movies a week. All of the speakers are the current McIntosh models. The system sounds very dynamic and smooth. Lots of depth and a very stable image. The volume with DVDs can be frightening and the bass shakes my next door neighbors house!
I think it does, it blows away my old SS system. Here's my current setup:5 Jolida 801s with Svetlana KT88s
EAD TheaterMaster (I'm replacing with a Lexicon MC-12B)
Klipsch K-Horns Fronts
Klipsch Heresy center (pair)
Klipsch La Scala rears
Velodyne HGS-15 sub
