I've uesd Edison Price speaker posts on my amp projects for many years for one reason. Despite their occasional failures due to the soft copper, they were the best sounding connectors I had tried. Many other binding posts impart a bright edge to the treble and lean out the midbass. The EP posts err on the side of being slightly dull which for me is easier to work around.
Since the EP is no longer available, what other type have you found to be the best sounding?
By the way, I am not trying to stir up any flame war. If you think binding posts all sound the same or make at most a miniscule difference in sound, I am not trying to argue with you. You're entitled to your opinion. I just want to hear the views of other folks like myself who find them to have a significant impact on sonics.
Thanks.
Dave
Follow Ups:
Thanks for the useful replies. I already have the regular Cardas unplated copper which are a harder material than the copper EP posts and thus more durable. Unfortunately, they don't sound as good. I will order a set of the silver plated Cardas posts after Michael Percy returns from vacation and see how they fare. Thanks again.

Ah, cool. Like a Morse taper.

I build amps & such w/ terminal strips on the rear exterior of the screw terminal with dividers, same as most high end pro gear of long ago. The I just bring my leads out below these heavy duty strips & gives absolute control over what I can do, then I just use Buchanan thru hole terminals from Home Depot etc, .. on my speaker cables & solder them on the cable after a good crimp, there is no way in heck they can become detached & I can put a death grip on the termination & with the dividers between the double screw terminal there is no chance of something getting where it is not supposed to be, sounds as good as my Cardas, EP, etc....This is how I hear it.
Good practice. Commercial/Industrial power systems are right up there with the best... when done right.
Go to any INDUSTRIAL electric supplier and you will find all sorts of wonderful stuff you can use.
What Cardas and EP have done for us is to make this level... or slightly better... performance available with ease of installation and superb fit, installation, and beauty.
Cardas best post uses a solid silver shank which ends up as a clamp-plate, and you have an identical solid silver clamp plate on the other side. You also have solder holes in the silver shank-- use OLD Wondersolder, and you have all of the other possibilities either beat or equalled, and it looks nice, and fits Hi-Fi Industry standard cable lugs.
Not bad, George! I'm liking them!

You do not think this is the wrong place to ask? You do not think the cable forum is more suitable?
And how do you find this not inflamatory on a DIY tube forum?
"You're entitled to your opinion."
Thank you.
I personaly enjoy such posts on this forum. We all use binding posts and other connectors on our DIY tube projects. I find it very helpful to have such posts here as I'm not inclined to surf the other forums. Nothing against the other forums but my interest is here where I've
come to trust the opinions of those here that share my interest in tube gear. If you believe that connectors can make an audible difference, is it a streach to think that a connector that is great on a SS amp might suck on a tube amp?
I think it a perfectly acceptable post here.
Gary

Are we in the twilight zone?
OF COURSE we're all in the Twilight Zone! From where else would we be getting the awesome performance we're getting?

Check out Allied Electronics page 423. Stock numbers 885-6051 and 885-6052. $5.92 each. These are Pomona single binding posts. They are direct gold plated tellurium copper. This is the same type copper used by Edison-Price. The thing I like most about them is that they are extremely low mass. I don't like the idea of sending a signal through a honkin' huge piece of brass as is the case with most "high end" posts.
I haven't used the E-P post as I found these first and they're cheaper, so I can't offer a direct comparison, but they're the best I've tried. The only draw back to some may be thier small physical size.
Please try them and report your results here.
Gary
I used them on il monstro - very nice finish, a step above most plastic binding posts. The only potential issue I can see with these is the size of the thru-hole is small - 14 gauge max! Of course, you can always use spades, but for a tube amp and high efficiency speakers, who needs heavy speaker cables?
Whoops, now I've done it!

Try the BEST Cardas-- the ones with silver plate clamps. The nuts on these are gold-plated also, and they look very nice.
Like you, I always used the EP and found them to be very good. The BEST Cardas are even better! Get them and you'll learn to love them.
Please allow break-in time on these.
Michael Percy has 'em in stock. ----Dennis----
'Break in time'? For a binding post? Is it better after it corrodes a bit? Give me a 'break'.
of audio system do you have at home?Curious Forum members want to know. Tell us about your home's reference audio system, we might gain helpful knowledge from your response, as you have never posted it in Inmate Systems.

I don't know about "best", but Superior Electric BPs from Allied are very reasonably priced and sound damned good.

I'm so sorry to hear that these have been discontinued - I always thought they sounded great and have used them in multiple amps. The only other binding posts that I really like are the Cardas - the plain copper ones are great but more expensive than the Edison Price.
Charlie
I second, the plain copper Cardas binding posts sound really good...
