Hi Victor,
Would you know the model number of the 1960s Ampex (stereo) that came in a brown "suitcase" portable format? There was also a matching amp/speaker unit for monitoring/playback.
Thanks!

They made some interesting portables, some still sell for high prices, things like the F-44, 960 or 1260, which also came in the suitcases, but that is not my main interest, I like the stuff I can't lift. :)
BTW, here is an interesting read on that great company early history.
Thank you!

If you realized it, but there are no VU meters. "I really like VU meters...I mean I know that's not profound or nothin...heck we all do. ...But for me, I think it goes far beyond that". Especially if the VU meter lights are working, unlike mine.BTW, I do like the music who is it by?

This deck is playback only, so no need for meters. Normally, in studios, the machines would be calibrated to standard levels, and all the level control then done from the console, so those would not need meters either.
I have plenty of different meters in my system - some of my machines have them, most don't, but I use scopes as meters, that is the best way to see what is happening there. I set the scopes in XY mode and put cursors to limit the excursion, then you can clearly see the levels.
I also have external meter boxes, of which the Dorrough is the best, it gives you both the average and peak readings at the same time.
The music comes from the sampler tape from the Italian company Analogy Records, I can get more info later.
