In Reply to: RE: How many here still have cassette stashes of new Blank Hi End tapes. posted by Cougar on December 28, 2020 at 09:31:57
I record about twelve 90 minute metal cassettes per year, and at 63, I figured if lucky, I'd need enough for 20 years, so a few years ago I started buying them new and used on eBay. Now I have the 240 needed and more, and now I only buy the rare bargains. It got to where the only reasonable prices were on used bulk, and even then, about $7-$10 a piece. My favorite is Maxell MX-S 90. I prefer to re-record on the used ones because sealed ones are so expensive, sound quality is the same, and when I'm really old, I'll still have the pleasure of unwrapping a new one.

really? damn ... I'd better check a few garage boxes
I'm pretty sure there's quite a few new TDK, BASF, Maxell etc.
you know, it seemed the 'sturdiest' cassettes I used back in the day were plain old Memorex, those rarely broke or twisted up on me ... sounded pretty good too ... got frustrated with 90m failures and started buying 60m thinking the tape was thicker ...
be well,
