Niklas or anyone else,Do you have a source for a set of new heads for the Tandberg 3014A deck? My deck is back at the tech and he has found the playback head has some damage. It needs to be replaced. I'd rather get all new heads for this deck anyway, and I know you are closer to where Tandberg was sold then I am. Any sources for parts?

......the companies you recommended?
I might be saying a nonsense, but the playback head on my 3014 just look the same that the heads on my 3034, which is a cheaper deck to find and could serve as a source for this heads.
I have bougth them from ebay germany, but they don't come often, so you'll have to wait if you want to try.
The head on the 3034 is a combined record/playback head while the 3014 is a playback only and a separate record and separate erase head ( 3 separate heads ). So in this case they are not the same at all.
I just wish the playback head on the 440 is the same as the 3014. Unfortunately they are not.

The 3014 is a three head deck, but it has not a "combination" head. Instead, it has a record head that goes in the small cassette window between the capstan window and the central window in the cassette tape path.
The erase head is before the supply capstan.
So this leaves a single 'big' playback head in the central posittion. And this head looks like the one in the 3034
Can you have a custom head made?

That's a very important reason I gave up on acquiring 3014 and other later TOTL series. Once the heads wear out, one's sol and buying another 3014A for parts doesn't make any sense economically.

What kind of damage?

I'm confused, I thought Nick had enough parts to last for more than his life time. So you can't get the heads even from Nick?
You might want to check out German ebay for 3014A heads. Every now and then, I see them for sale.
Hi. No Nick used up his allotment of heads for the 3014 deck. He had a parts deck which he took the playback head out for my deck. That head turned out to be damaged. He does have parts for other Tandbergs, its just this perticular deck seems to run out of stuff. No wonder since its a popular deck. I have too much invested in the deck now to abandon it. I won't sell it since I'll be lucky to get half of my money back in the sale.

I am truly sorry to hear that. Check out German ebay, you might get lucky.
Unfortunately Nick does not has any head left in his stock. He has to re-lap mine when he serviced my machine last year. That is why I hope the TCD-440 heads are the same as those used in the 3014A.
In the other hand the TOTL Nakamichi Decks all use the same heads as some of their middle level decks so heads are not a problem with Nak. Nak also has the pad lifter that reduces the head wear.

Thanks a lot! I am glad I didn't choose 3014 as my TOTL cassette deck.

Now, I see why so many people go for Nak as their TOTL cassette deck.
Does the heads in the TCD-440 fix those in the TCD-3014A?
Mike
From what I know- no. No other deck works other then the 3014, 3014A, and the 910.
