I have a P300 that I have owned since new in 1975. The unit has seen little overall use. But last year I decided to do a experiment and had a recap done. I used black gates and had installed 2 Mundorf m-lytic PSU caps.
The unit sounds wunderful but after about 20 hours use when I power it up the protection circuit is tripped. Sometimes I can turn it on and off and it comes on. But after some hours in use the next time no luck as the protection stays in force.
After letting the unit sit from 5 to 10 days the unit will power up fine and the the same cycle starts all over.
I have taken it back to the tech once and as with luck have it he could not get the unit to falter. But the bias was low in one channel and needed to be reset.
Some times the sound cuts out for a second on one channel but it is very intermittent and I think this part of the problem goes way back and is the reason for mothballing the unit many years ago.
Also the power switch which is a push in sticks sometimes and i have to press it a certain way so it operates smoothly. I sprayed it with some deoxit which seemed to remedy the problem for a while.
Any Ideas from P300 owners or techs
Thanks,
Roger
P.S.
I have read that these amps have problems with pots and transistors, any ideas. Also looking for a tech with experience with these amps on west coast.
