Looking for info or sites on Spica TC50 speakers.
Am also interested in any opinions of these speakers from first-hand listeners.
Thanks in advance.
Rob
nice image, good cohesive sound. That said unless you are getting a bargain there are better speakers out there. A lot has happened in the small speaker segment of the market over the last few years. The TC-50's wont have the dynamic capabilities of the newest mini-monitors. Check out companies like Totem, NSM, NHT and many others for mini monitors that are approaching some of the capabilities of a full range speaker. If you are able to pick up the TC-50's for a song, they are a good sounding speaker that will make music. Just dont pay too much.
I have owned Spica tc-50's for many years. Their strong points was fabulous imaging, and a nice midrange. They are rolled off at the extremes, but hey thats a reasonable compromise. Dynamics are not exceptional, neither is it's power handling. But mated with a nice amp, they can be very musically satisfying. They take quite a bit of work to set up, toe -in, and speaker height is critical. That being said, Spica is also out of business. Parts are difficult to get. Parasound bought them, and still has some stuff available. The tweeters were easy to damage, but you could get replacement diaphrams from madisound. One thing to note, is that people who did replace the voice coils often said the sound wasnt the same with the new parts they bought. Eventually I sold my Spica's, there are better speakers out there, but you have to pay for them. I believe a good used set of tc-50's can still make great music, provided u take care to match them up with credible equipment.
