Any suggestions for inexpensive way to connect up an HSU sub on the cheap?
I am looking to integrate the HSU sub that has long been in storage with a pair of ELAC Reference DBR 6.2s
I have a tube preamp and 25 wpc OTL tube power amp. The preamp does not have any subwoofer output or crossover functionality. I am hesitant to buy the $30 passive inline high pass filters, I presume they will negatively effect the signal to the main speakers (years ago I tried the inline attenuators and did not like the result).
The sub has a plate amp and accepts both speaker level and line level inputs.
I will probably try leaving the ELACs full range and just augmenting with the sub, but since the tube amp is only 25wpc it is probably worth a try filtering the bottom from the main speakers if possible.
The ELACs are not really crying out for sub augmentation, but since they are "bookshelf" speakers, and the HSU is in storage anyway, might as well try it.
. I judge any sound system by how tiring it is to listen to.

Follow Ups:
I found and sold on fleabay (relatively quickly too) a Paradigm X-30 crossover that I had in storage forever. Those are relatively cheap if you can find them and should do the trick.
I like this product, it is affordable, well made and very flexible.

yep that might be a solution for me if I can't find my HSU devices ( a real possibility )

Not sure how the HSU is designed, but my REL has speaker level inputs that are high impedance and intended to be connected to the same amp output as the speakers. The amp of the sub has low pass controls to extract just that portion of the signal freq range that you wish to have the sub reproduce.
One caveat is that this does not work if the amp itself is fully differential, and so with my Ayre amp I have to make use of the line level inputs of the sub instead.
Cerebrate!
Will this do the trick?
hell yes, and believe it or not I think I have at least one of those in storage somewhere I had forgotten about.

Years ago I used one of them. Great product!
Lt, I use an older tube amp with a sub woofer.I bought 2 Y cables. One output goes to 2 inputs. That way your sub plate amp can get the audio signal and most plate amps will cut off the upper music signals. Your tube amp will see the full signal as well as the plate amp..Parts Express and Audio Advisor both have some real good gold Y cables....Mark Korda
Lt, sorry, 1 input in the Y cable goes to 2 inputs. So with 2 Y cables coming out. of say your CD player, left and right signals go to your amp and left and right signals also go to your plate amp, which if HSU should have a built in cut off filter.I do this with a BASH 300 sub plate amp and it works perfectly...Mark
