So a nice Fisher Model X-101-B amp> What type of small speaker would sound nice with that in a 12X14 room price?? 3-400 anybody with listening experience on some speakers there? I have all the small vintage speakers KLH 17s-KLH 6's (real small huh) so trying to get something that the wife would not object to to set up in the room. I am out of the loop in new audio.
Thanks,
Kindablue

available for around $400 at Amazon or $499 new. Much better than B5 and B6.

Many have been written up in Stereophile. But they won't all sound the same to your ears, by a long shot. My own choice would be an Audio Note AX1, very similar to the Rogers LS-1.
Better to buy something you can hear and like than take a reviewer's word.
The ELAC B5 has received many favorable comments since their introduction a couple of years ago. They can be found online for a little over $200 including shipping.

Give these a try. They have a 60 day return if you don't like them!
It's not really necessary--- unless that's what
you really want-- to use a small speaker in a room that
is 12 feet or wider.
I use a 11.4 cu. ft. model that is 21 inches wide,
and 26 inches deep routinely in such a space.
Performance is beyond outstanding-- it is exemplary
in every way.

PSB speakers Look in the local used audio small ads These are Very popular (cuz they can be V good) and a genuine upgrade from KLH's :-)
Also Very affordable used.. Mebe half your budget, if lucky.
I agree with this posting. A pair of PSB Stratus Minis will do very well for ca. $2-400. They need to be on stands. I bought a pair for bookshelf mounting in a second system. They do okay with a shelf mount (although it has to be a substantial shelf) because the port is on the front baffle. If you'd prefer a little more bass and don't want stands, a pair of PSB Stratus Silver floor standers would do.
These are good, uncolored speakers (I also owned Stratus Golds, their top-of-the-line floor stander, for many years. Very fine sound.)

More than what I think you want to spend (maybe look for used), but they are very small, great reviews, run on a min. of 10 watts. Sub can be added in. See URL link below. Might be interesting on how they sound with tubes. I also have a 101-B, heading to my office system.
Since you like the KLH house sound, why not sell your 6's and get a vintage pair of 5's?
