Given the room size, I think you would be better off with a small floorstander with bass extension down to the mid-upper 30s, or a stand-mount. And then get a sub if you feel you're missing anything down low. The reason is that you will have a strong room mode in the low 30s (corresponding to that 17' dimension) and a lot of room gain below that.
I have a room that is roughly 13x16x8. When I've tried putting relatively full range speakers in it, I get exaggerated low bass and booming, especially around 35 Hz. Some people like the boom, but I find it to be annoying and distracting from my enjoyment of the music.

I guess most folks here know this - but... besides the bass traps, I also find adjusting the listening position can be a big help to arrive at a desired bass response.
