I was wondering why it was taking such a long time for my modified 901's to break-in really good and found out it was the glue coated dust caps !I took my finger and pushed around on the dust caps until most of the stiffness was gone and the dried wood glue came off pretty easy then.
Now my speakers sound fine now so anyone trying this tweak, DO NOT put glue on the DUST CAPS !!
Now back to the music........

Bass is supposed to sound big. 6.5" is not a woofer size.
Good grief......seriously??? Perhaps a speaker that wouldn't need experimentation with wood glue may be a good idea??
The purpose is to tame paper cone breakup resonance modes...most of which raise their ugly heads at elevated frequencies.
In doing the coating, they are able to extend the frequency range and avoid ugly response peaks.
"Perhaps a speaker that wouldn't need experimentation with wood glue may be a good idea??"
Really?
You'd never heard of doped drivers?
;D
But in the first thread you said they sounded "SOOOO MUCH BETTER !" and now you're saying "Now my speakers sound fine now..."
So they sounded sooo much better, and when you poked the wood glue off the dust caps do they sound even soooo much betterer??
I have had several pairs of speakers where I thought they sounded really good and kept tweaking and trying to get them to sound better. Every time I did something I thought "This is IT!" until the next thing I did to try to fix them.
After a while I realized that I kept dicking with them because they pretty much sucked. My last few pairs of speakers I haven't really done much to them except enjoy.
I owned 901 III years and years ago and haven't heard them since so I have no idea how good or bad they are. But you keep dicking around with yours...
The 901's I owned back in the 80's, never did break in. We all make mistakes, those were mine.
Hahaha , I love that technical jargon Sebrof, "But you keep dicking around with yours" ... That just about describes the 901 mod perfectly.

They did some much better then before but they do sound their best without glue on the dust caps....@%@
