I have a Spendor SP2/3 with a blown tweeter, a Scanspeak D2010/854304. I have found a potential replacement, a new D2010/851300. Do the digits after the slash indicate a significant change from the original?
Follow Ups:
As much as I know Scanspeak made tweeter to the Spendor's spec (or Spendor modified it in the house). So it may have different parameters that may mess the sound. Even worse is if you change only one as you will have imbalance between channels.
It is not too old speaker, doesn't Spendor have spare parts? Yes, they are more expensive than stock, but for a reason. Maybe they sell replacement membrane/coil?
Did you check with Madisound if they can repair it, (replace coil/membrane)?
It makes me wonder what people do to their speakers, my Monitor Audio MA66 are 30 years old in daily use and still going strong.
Last tweeter I lost was when I was 19 thanks to a friend who turned volume way over amp capabilities during the party while I was very busy in the other room. Hmmm when I think, it was worth ;-)
