these (relatively) inexpensive lovelies have it all: extension,
smoothness, liveliness, and transparency.
Fritz is certainly one of the least pretentious guys in the biz;
he is worth your time just for this.
but you will find that his speaker compares very well indeed with
the 10,000 Merlins.
What a find.

He is really on to something with series xovers. Excellent drivers + nice woodwork + dynamic and clean sound = outstanding speakers and a blow-ur-mind bargain at $1850/pr.
I have a pair on stands next to YG Acoustics Kipod Main Modules (10x $) and the REV 5 sound good! If someone told me they prefer the Fritzspeakers, I would not be too surprised.

I have the Carbon 7s and I do not notice the "sameness" effect. I can still hear differences in recordings. Because the speakers are warm, they are more forgiving on bad recordings so the differences are not a stark as with other speakers. I can't heap enough praise on the Carbon 7s. Very balance, warm, yet still detailed. Most of all, musical. For the price, forget about it, you won't find anything that good at that price.
One review mentioned "one of the main compromises that I encountered with the Carbon 7’s is how they suffer from what I call the ‘sameness’ effect. This is when the speakers tonal colorations make it sound as though all of your recordings were mixed by the same person in the same recording studio" and similarly another reviewer stated that they sounded "lush" and "warm".
Did you experience this "sameness" effect and warm/lush coloration?

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
.
Is this a review of the speaker or the designer?
