Leave it to the Brits to come up with something as hair-shirt as a two thousand dollar external crossover for a 30 year old shoe-box sized monitor.
Of course, I'm dying to hear them, but doubt I ever will.
Has anyone here had a chance to hear the V2's with their new external crossover?
How does the damn thing work, anyway? Power amp speaker lead to the box, then one set out of the box to tweeters, one to woofers? That can't over-ride the internal crossover.
I tell ya, for two grand this thing better be pretty damn good.

There is more than one way to look at this. I am an LS3/5A owner. For £835 i purchased a new LS3/5A V2 loudspeaker that has a better trebble, mid-range, upper-bass and soundstaging ability than some £5,000 full-range speakers I have heard. If I could spend just £1000 and get 30 additional Hz of bass from my minis I would. But a Harbeth 40 is a bit more expensive than £1835.
Would I pay £1835 for a £5000 full range speaker that sounded generally worse than the LS3/5A but had an 30 additional Hz on the bottom end? No.
Would I be willing to pay an additional £1000 for the small improvements you mentioned that are attributed to the external cross-over? Yes.
I am currently looking at spending from £150-300 for proper set of stands and then I will either buy this cross-over or see if I get the DIY version made for me for a bit less.

Have Noel build you a pair of 2-column 25" stands with top plates perfectly matched in size to your Stirlings. He ships all over the world. You'll be very pleased.
And by all means, let us know if you hear the Cicable!
PS: Have you ever heard the Stirlings on a Quad 909?
Thanks. I am familiar with them. They look like the old Target hifi stands.
No, I have not heard that combination. I play mine with Quicksilver minis and a Rogue Atlas. I am currently using a Blue Circle solid state preamp, though.

Small world, I'm currently using a Blue Circle SBH pre-amp with my 909. It's a wonderful combination. And I ran my Stirlings off Rogue gear, that was a great combo, too.
