What is the current "budget" King of Bookshelf speakers sort of in the vein of the RS Minimus 7 or the Optimus Pro LX-5?
Follow Ups:
Ascend Acoustics 170 SEAS edition.
Where have you guys been?! Wake-up and smell the shite...

I hope you are kidding.
At $400/pr (and maybe less used on A'gon), the Omega Mini-Me minimonitor, which uses a Fostex full-range driver, is the most-satisfying minimonitor I've ever owned.
Todd, I respect your opinion very much. That's interesting and a little surprising to hear you say.
Onix xls, new and getting raves.
I guarantee you that nothing will top these in this price range.
Im also looking for an inexpensive pair of standmounts to use with my computer and Exposure integrated. Here are a few ive been considering.
There are many others around to
Wharfedale Diamond 9.2
Epos els3, m5
Axiom m3ti
Energy rc-10
Psb b25
NHT sb3
I've very partial to these and have heard a lot of the 'budget contenders', including the Wharfedales. They're only three hundred bucks a pair and sound great on 30" Skylan stands.
I agree that the Epos ELS-3 speakers are an amazing value and produce a very high quality sound that rivals several larger speakers.I finally found something better (that fits within my size constraints): Totem Model 1 Signature. But these are much more expensive.
Do you have a high listening chair? I am using a 24" Skylan and the sound is very balance. The EPOS stand is only slightly taller than 24".
I' pretty tall and like a 'big' sound - too many years of listening to Magnepans I guess. I got the 28" stand and had Noel add 2" to it. So that puts the top of my speakers at 40" in the room and it sounds very nice.
ditto. ELS 3s are giant killers when paired with good front end.
Mine get moved around to various rooms, but sometimes they're hooked up in the '2-channel music room' - Arcam CD and Naim amplification. Spooky good sound for the money.
Here are just a few.Mission m70 $79.95 on close out from TSTO.com(I own them and love'em)
Infinity Primus 150 $80 from electronicsexpo.com
Onix xls $199 from av123.com
Boston Acoustics Cr67 $279Dennis
what he said! I owned the Primus 150s (& currently the Onix XL-S)& both were/are an excellent value.
.
look into the speakers under monitors, and see a series of B & W 805 clones, some of which are at least semi interesting. I exchanged with the importer of one Chinese made clone because his zip is near where I attend church and pretty close to home.He knew a whole lot and was honest. See link. No relation nor interest in his company.
