I have an Almarro A205A II and needed a very small speaker with decent sensitivity for a bedroom system. After doing some research, I came across the JBL Control 1x. Very small, 89db efficient and an 8 ohm load. $75 a pair shipped.Frankly, I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised on their sound. Anybody needing an inexpensive speaker that is SET friendly should check these out.
Follow Ups:
I would be wary of assuming the published spec. of 89 dB is accurate. When JA at S-phile measures speaker sensitivities, it's not unusual for the actual, measured value to be 2-3 dB lower than specified. It's pretty rare when a speaker measures as it is claimed to be (at least in JA's methodology). Just a cautionary view.

Check out the Mission M70. $79.95 from the stereo trading outlet in PA. This speaker cannot be touched for the money. I prefer them to my Phase Tech PC1.1II, which were $800.
I had been looking for something for my garage system and after looking at the JBLs and the Missions....I popped for the MIssions. Should be here next week. Hope you're right about them being good. I've always wanted to try some Missions.
You made a good choice. I tried he JBLe30's last year and they were aweful. They are goind to take some time to breakin, but once they do you will be very suprised by the balance and smooth sound they produce.
That's what I'm hoping for. Are they fairly easy to drive? I just built a gainclone last year that might just do the trick at 25w/ch.
> speaker that is SET friendly <I would hardly call 89db SET friendly. It's not SET's worst nightmare, but I doubt they would be best buds.....
The impedance is a more critical factor than the sensitivity when it comes to SET designs.
I'm not so sure 89db is a bad match for SET -- depending on how powerful the SET is. It's never going to do Aerosmith well but then very few standmounts can play loud rock competantly (and no subs don't help).I have heard the 90db sensitive AN K and AX Two standmounts with my 10 Watts Oto SE and both do an oustanding job. Likely quite easy impedence loads.
Then again -- if you're thinking K-Horn then yeah I agree...give her 2 watts and let the paster crumble.
