I have money burning a hole in my pocket and my wife is thinking up ways to spend it on other things besides speakers. I just can't seem to find any good speakers for $2000 anywhere. Unbelievable. Im thinking of just settling for the QUAD 22L's and be done with it if they can fill such a large room. The local QUAD dealer says NO.
Any opinions on this?

I like quad 22ls a lot, but they are the wrong speaker for that large a room. You will get a nice soundstage, but you won't get ample dynamics for that room size. You need a bigger speaker.
Yeah I can see that now. Thanks for the advice. Its too bad no one with larger speakers will take my money (
Asking too much

Your probably going to have a hard time 'filling' that room with anything under 2k. As tucker said. it will image well and sound nice but probably not provide you the 'bass' your looking for. If taht's the case - then maybe you just need to add the sub. But if you can help it... don't settle.
Looks like I missed the boat like usuall. Just last month there was a alot of speakers on my list selling for that price range. Now the only sellers left are the ones that are asking too much. what a bummer (

I have to question why you would just settle for any speaker? You'll end up regretting the move and wasting cash. Better to stash your money away in a CD or even online savings account until the speaker you like comes up.As for your question, I ran Quad 22Ls in a similar sized room (actually, the ceilings were more like 15') and short answer is "sort of." The Quads are excellent at projecting a holographic soundstage that certainly can fill a room that size, but they don't have quite the grunt in the low end to move enough air for a solid kick drum and/or bass line. I'd look elsewhere.
I guess your right. I will wait to pounce on s speaker on my "to look for" list. Problem with money. If its there my family will spend it. heh

I think you need to compare the Quads head-on with other speakers in the price range. Will be curious to know what other speakers impressed you more in that price range over the Quads. I compared them (Quad 21L) to many other floor-standers upto $2500 and none could impress me with the music the Quads make.
I know what speakers I do want but there is no good deals on AudioGon right now. Like usuall bad timing. I'm looking into ushers now. Amazing there is none on sale on audioGon either. auuurgh.

I have much the same problem 18x40 with 12' ceilings. I'm thinking of the new mirage speakers. I think they run around $1000. PS digital fans think that their cell phones sound good. he he
