What is the correct stand height for these speakers? I tried them with 28" stands and my ear was about 5" below the tweeter and I was getting ceing reflections and a kind of washed out sound.I tried them with 24" kitchen stools and got better results. When I slouched, my ear was slightly below the tweeter, but I have no frame of reference as to what is correct as I am new to the M30's.
I was impressed with the speakers in my home audition, but the kitchen stools needed to go back into the kitchen, so I am speakerless until I sort out the stand issue.
I found the M30's a big leap of an improvement from the P3es-2's
Any suggestions re speaker stand height and selection?

Here is a pic of my M30's on 24" Skylan Stands.
Jay,Sounds like 24" stand height is what you need. As mentioned the correct stand height for the Harbeths is to have the tweeter at ear level from the listening position. If you have been following the recent discussions at the Harbeth usergroup site you may recall some users say that having ear level slightly below the tweeter height "sweetens" the sound a bit. As for stand selection just make sure that if it is a metal stand that it is fillable to dampen resonances and that you use spikes for stability and vibration transmission. As mentioned I use the Sound Anchors (www.soundanchors.com/page78.html) four post stands which are great but pricey at $650pr. The Harbeth distributor recommended the Canadian made Skylan stands which are $200 or $350 for 24". Both of these brands are popular with Harbeth users.

Hi Jay,I saw your same post over at the Harbeth web usergroup but since I am here I'll post here instead. I have had M30's for a couple of months now and I simply followed Alan Shaws recomendation that the tweeter should be at ear level in the seated listening position. My ear level is about 40.5" and so I purchased 26" Sound Anchor stand which with 1.25" spikes places the tweeter at 39.75"overall height. If your seated listening position is lower then 24" stands would be better. As for the washed out sound I believe that it has more to do with room acoustics and speaker placement than just speaker height. If you haven't found the ideal placement for the speakers given your room dimentions - optimal bass reinforcement and sufficient distance of speakers out from the walls - you should address this at the same time as determining spaeker height. If you are not familiar with the area of speaker placemnet the FAQ section here at AA is a good starting point. It should go without saying perhaps that both the M30's and to a greter extent the smaller P3es-2's are bass shy and can be greatly enhanced with the addition of a high quality subwoofer. I recently purchased a Velodyne DD-10 subwoofer which provides built in DSP frequency correction that one can see graphically displayed via micophone to TV screen. It allowed me to first assess that I had the best postioning of the M30's and then adding in the sub to produce a relatively flat frequency response fron lowest frequency on upwards.

ThanksThe issue was clearly stand height. We placed them in the same position as I had my P3's (64" out into the room, slightly more than 5 feet apart and five feet from my ears) and the sound became marvelous when they were placed on 24" kitchen stools, but the stools needed to go back to thew kitchen.
I think your priorities are mixed up. Sitting in the kitchen is overrated. Try standing in the kitchen. Better for your health anyway. Move the stools back into your listening room and hook up the speakers.
