Lately, I have been selling various items on CL. Whenever I list an item, I immediately receive messages inquiring "do you still have this item"?
Yesterday, I replied positively to two of them. Both sent a reply similar to the following:
Hello i really appreciate your response to my earlier mail.like i said
i will like to buy this item for the exact price listed so pls do
withdraw the ad from Craigslist. I will also like you to know that
i will be paying via check.I will need you to provide me with the
following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.
1.Your full name to be on the check
2.Home or work address
3.Your cell/phone number.
You will not be responsible for moving,i will have my mover come over
for the pick up as soon as you have cashed the check**
Have a nice day.
Should these be suspected? I already listed my cell phone number in the description, why did they just not call?
Thx, Al

It's got scam written all over it .
Total scam. The check will be written for an amount much larger than you're asking, and they'll want you to give them their "change" in cash. I've heard about this several times over the past couple years.
Yeah, I sell lots of stuff on CL and have learned that when you get a response within a short time of the posting that does not mention the item for sale, it is a BOT scam and I stopped replying. Once you respond, they have your addy for future misuse.
AFAIK, if you used the "anonymize" feature when you created the ad...any email replies you send won't show your own email address...it should arrive in their box showing a Craigslist generated link. I could be wrong though. Yes, I have gotten these vague inquiries too...and they always come from someone with an odd name.
The response is boilerplate, probably automated. Notice that the response you received could also apply to a box of used doorknobs. You expect questions, negotiations, etc. The whole "check and my shipper" independently makes it dead certain that this is a scam.
I buy and sell quite a bit on Craigslist, and when I respond to an ad I always say something personal about the item, even if I'm making a full-price offer, so the person knows I'm real. I also include my name and phone number, unless I think the seller might be a scammer.
Craigslist is terrific resource. You just need to be careful.
Pure scam. Counterfeit bank check for more $$$ to come, once you cash it and give the extra $$$ to the "agent" who picks up, you'll be out the money AND the goods. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!
My mother-in-law, after seeing the Levinson 33H amps in my listening room: "Those are the nicest electric room heaters I've ever seen".
SCAM!!!!RUN!!!
