Hello!
I have a SE OPT with primary impedance 5K and secodnary is 0, 2, 4, 8ohm.
I have some told me that the primary impedance can double up to 10K by connecting the secondary winding on certain fashion. He didn't go through the detail, will it affect the performance of the SE OPT if doing what he suggest??
I want a OPT with primary impedance of 10K, but what I have is 5K primary only.

Refer to their data sheet, all spec measurement and 5K primary of this output transformer is based on "4ohm" load, not 8 ohm normally do.
Yes, it will affect the performance. You will lose an octave of bass. The treble may be a gain or a loss or have a new resonance - hard to say, it depends on the detail design and specs of the transformer. You will get half the power output capability, but the copper losses will be only half as big (e.g. 0.25dB instead of 0.5dB. Hysteresis distortion will double.
Depending on the particular transformer, and on what you want to do with it, these changes may or may not be important to you. :^)

The primary impedance is only 5K when you hook up 2 ohms to the 2 ohm tap, 4 to the 4, or 8 to the 8.
If you hook up 4 ohm load to the 2 ohm tap, 8 ohm load to the 4 ohm tap, or 16 ohms to the 8 ohm tap then the reflected impedance is doubled = 10K.

Would hooking an 8-ohm load to a 4-ohm tap change the bandwidth of the unit?
