Willie, hi. The amplifier is a thing of beauty. I bet it makes pretty music too. I'd love to hear it. Maybe someday. If you don't mind send
me your e-mail address. Happy Listening!
Could you elaborate on the 2A3 direct couple amp with modern power supply?
As I ssaid it's now my Reference amp. A 2 stage amp with, 12AX7 directly coupled to a Parafeed 2A3 with Solid Silver Sceondary OPT's.
The DC signal curcuit and power supply are Jeff Medwin design.
All power supply iron is Jeff's stuff, Anode choke and Parafeed OPT is Electra-Print.
All (most) wiring is either Solid or Multiple lengths of stranded Teflon coated Silver wire, for signal and ground wires. Transformer have multiple lenghts of Kimber TCSS wire for connections. Quad 5V3 rectifers two per channel.
12ga steel chassis eith Brass mounting hardware. Chassis is Spray painted a light brown enammel.
This is my Refernce amp and the second Jeff amp I've built. The first was the same Jeff circuit and power iron, but a Non-Parafeed standard shunt Electra-Print Opt with solid silver secondaries ( a very nice sounding amp too) .
The Reference amp can run the JBL L-112's with no sweat, I got to remember to try the other amp with them too!
Have fun
Willie
I remember in the earlier iteration i built (3yrs ago?) there was a lot of ripple on the driver due to lack of isolation (in the design). Thing sounded like a million bucks (fast as hell, nice bass, brass had serious "bite") but the hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm was unbearable... Jeff has since worked that out...and I assume yours bears that fruit...
nice build.

Very nice! So you are a believer in the ways of the lowmu doc. Nice to see one actually built rather than just reading the endless theoretical debates. Can you comment about your subjective listening of the amps and what you have compared it to?
Thanks for sharing.
Aww.. man I'm just a "hack" thats been DIYing Tubes for about 20years. SETDHTing for 19.66 years of that.
I have and had amps that ran 10's 45's ,2A3's, 50's,183's, 300B's, SV-811-3,
845's and 211's. 45PP and 2A3PP all mostly IT coupled.
I use mostly Altec Lansing and a couple of JBL's for speakers.
Been to 3 RMAF events.
After I built my 2A3DC Reference amp, I decided to dismantle my 6SN7 RC to 45 IT to 845 SE amp, Which had been my best sounding amp.
I've been a long time fan of IT coupling SEDHT and PPDHT amps. Now I like DC for SEDHT amps and IT for PPDHT amps.
Caveat, in both cases it's "ALL About the Power Supply ".
Have fun!
Willie
