Anyone have this set? Pretty good songs?
Thanks!

I have the set although I have not listened to it in years. I liked the songs but believe it or not not the production. Spector's "wall of sound" was more like noise to me. Way too much. I thought that may be because he was recording these songs to be played in car and tiny tranisitor radios, not a highly resolving sound system. I'll give them another listen.
That's not at all a surprise to me. And your speculation about Spector's "wall of mud" being tailored for AM radio sound is spot on.
I still can't believe Lennon and Harrison were so enamored with him that they let him ruin Let It Be and several of their solo LPs. Imagine what the classic All Things Must Pass box would sound like if Harrison hadn't been wearing rose colored earmuffs where Spector was concerned.
In the interview linked below, George talks about Spector, reverb, and CinemaScope (?).
Give me mono, but keep the mud.
