The greatest guitar rock band of all time?
I know, I know. The word greatest is annoying, but...

This is about as close to DatD version 2.0 as your going to get. Derick Trucks on the slide and how good is Susan Tedeshi on this?

Up front I prefer EC to DA. Preference only. Both are significant in any discussion. For me it's what happens on stage. From the released Fillmore, and In Concert I like the ABB release. I think the album's songs selections are stronger. EC's playing though is out of this world on In Concert. ABB beats DatD but EC outplays DA. Your experience my differ.
were absolutely stunning, it was the year 1970, the 60s still had another 3 or 4 years to go. RJ and I went to Fillmore West and were early enough to just amble to the stage front....Delaney & Bonnie with EC and 3 other future members of D&TD.....Holy crap on a pop-cycle stick, One the hottest concerts I had ever seen. With Delaney adding his voice and axe to it and Bonnie (ex Ikette) with her blow off the roof vocals...
IMHO, this may be right up there with D&TD Live at the Fillmore.Maybe better....
And George Harrison came along
...for the best classic rock album.
"Who's Next" would be next.
At least as pure rock goes. But, if you put "Layla" in the Blues-Rock catagory... maybe. JMO.

Specifically, Texas Blues... ever heard of this group?

Whenever I hear talk of blues this has been indelibly marked in my mind.
From one of the great movies, in my opinion the best adaptation of a comic book but since I never read comic books I really have no idea. I guess the blues and comic books exist in a similar space in my psyche.
GHOST WORLD has some unusual music choices. Foremost is DEVIL GOT MY WOMAN by Skip James which is truly one of the most extraordinary things ever made. Beyond blues, beyond any classification, a work of art.
A link to the scene where it is "discovered" in the movie:

Only room for one easy link ... but the scene containing DEVIL GOT MY WOMAN is a great depiction of musical discovery we can all appreciate.
Love those original Mississippi Blues recordings. Thanks, for the tip.
Put this thread in a guitar forum and you would start a war! So many great guitarists in that period. Now maybe comparing Derek and Nickelback....?
"Guitar Rock Band" what does that mean exactly? I'm trying to see what your criteria is and why that would lead you to Derrick and the Dominoes.
Duane Allman and Eric Clapton in the same band is what leads me to Derick and The Dominoes.
while listening to layla its hard to say its not.

Personally, I lean more toward the Allman Brothers. Great studio and live albums with Duane.
The Derek and the Dominos album is awesome, but live there was always something off. Part of it was that Duane wasn't involved outside of recording the one studio album with the exception of a guest appearance on the tour. Also, Eric Clapton was messed up a lot of the time during the recording and tour and in spite of his brilliance, it does show.
It is just too obvious that Duane's involvement is what made that album as great as it was. Love the group, but I just can't go along with Derek being the best guitar rock album of the era when there are equally fine studio productions by formidable groups like the Allman Brothers, Wishbone Ash, etc.
Johnny Winter plus Rick Derringer as good as any guitar duo from the 70s.
Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer from Edgar Winter's "Roadwork" album:
of your comments. But the live Derick and the Dominoes is the bomb. I would really have to look hard to find better Clapton if there is any.
Sure would be cool to find a bootleg of a live show with Duane. I've heard rumors that its out there, but I'm thinking it's urban myth.
Agreed about Wishbone Ash.Get the reissue of "Argus" for fine remastered sound and the addition of the "Live in Memphis" EP. The interplay of Andy Powell and Ted Turner can give any two guitarists a run for their money.
And the Andy Powell double-tracked "Throw Down The Sword" is as exquisite a guitar anthem soloing workout as any I've heard.
