I'm having a hard time finding out what guitar Clapton played on the live track Crossroads from the Cream album Wheels of Fire. In Cream's early days he played a Les Paul mostly; that was stolen and he bought an SG, the 'Fool SG' in the YouTube interview, used on a lot of Cream stuff. But all through this period he owned an ES 335 which was the guitar his hero BB King played. Also, even after his Les Paul was stolen he sometimes played one. The Wikipedia article has a fair amount of info on Clapton's guitars but they don't say either. Any guitar historians out there?
It's never too late to turn back the clock.

I wish I still had my two copies of his guitar auction catalogs from years ago . Hundreds of pics of his guitars and a bit if info on them. They were beatiful catalogs.
I have read many articles stating Clapton used the ...for "Crossroads"
Some were the SG, others were the 335. Whichever axe he used, he didn't
care for that great solo that we guitar players love to noodle with.
Not too difficult to get the tone and technique but, impossible
to play it like Clapton. I've read that even Eddie Van Halen has this cut on his noodle list.
PAF humbuckers. Prolly through hot-rodded Marshall Bluesbreaker or JTM-45 (1959) 100 watt Lead (Plexi). Or combo or the two (or three amps). 8^)
Sure sounds like GEC/MOV KT-66 loaded amps. Powerful, with a TON of sustain. Quite different than Mullard EL34 loaded Marshalls. My guess would be Fane alnico 12-inchers in the cab.
Cool stuff, for sure....
