Not sure why you would bother. 2N3055s are the cheapest and most readily available bipolar transistor. And in a power supply, it's not an audio quality issue.

Why you would make a statement like that about the PS is completely beyond me. Power supplies are of the utmost importance to sound quality. I have replaced the 2n3055 peashooter with the much higher current device and it sounds much better, fuller, more body, and somewhat clearer. It has been working now for some time with no problems. Have you actually ever compared different bipolar outputs yourself?
