DR: question for you can you please lay out how you install a vst plugin? Then how you use it? A real simple example (for us simple minded old timers) would be nice.

Hey Theob,
Always glad to help (hey, if I can help my dead beat boss who has the family in town, is off for the next four days starting saturday, and called me at 8:40am today to come to work because he wasnt feeling well (yeah right he wanted 5 days with the family), then I can definately help you).
Cics had a post about this I think, but I'll try to save him some time so he can get on that cover art :).
Lets use the balance one that I linked. Download and extract the file. You will end up with a .dll file:
Then in cplay, click settings (bottom left green lightening bolt??) and click the VST option that is next to ABOUT. Should give you a screen like this:
Click on the vst plugin tab at the top left and then find the dll file for the plugin you want to install:
You will then get the details of the plugin (some wont be compatible but that is rare):
Hit OK and then restart cplay. Note. Cplay remembers the last folder selected, so odds are you will have to change the folder from the vst folder back to your music folder to play music.
Now the vst button next to the stop button should be active and blue now.
Press it and it will bring up the vst controls and settings if the plugin has settings that need to be adjusted. In this example you will get balance control knobs:
There is a program called console that cics details in a post that you can use to string multiple vst plugins together.
Do a google for vst plugin. There are tons to choose from. Things like eq, room correction, crossovers (that is why I pestered cics to add vst...a big THANKS for that c), tube effects, soundstage expanders, headphone plugins, balance, and probably a ton I am missing are all things that can be added to cplay.
This is very very powerful and can add a ton of functionality. Though not all plugins are necessarily good soundwise, and some experimenting will be necessary for the free ones.

Oh, and in the settings menu in cplay you will see a BYPASS option next to the vst button. This allows you to listen with the vst bypassed and in the circuit, so you can ab it.
Also the VST check box is there as a vst safety as things like crossover can be deadly if you need to make changes before playing. There is no need to check that for most vst plugins.
Thanks DR!! Your steps are very clear thanks. Looking for vst plugins is cumbersome (i.e., so many with odd names/unclear functionality). I personally will need to comb over these to find someting I want.
I take it that for a crossover one needs a breakout cable from which comes multiple frequency band digital streams which need multiple dacs?
hey theob,
let me see if dawnrazor will at least share the "honour" of having got cics persuaded to implement a VST functionallity to cPlay....:-)
Iīve been using thuneaus digital crossover with cPlay for now 18 month, and since the VST function came avalliable, itīs very straight forward (sort of).
you will need a multichannel soundcard to do this, not a multi-breakout cable!
I use the lynx two B, as also dawnrazor does (his recommendation/thanks DR) but also the RME 9652 will work fine.
these cards have 3 dacs onboard and deliver the analog signal for the different amps.
kind regards
Well I guess I can't do that with juli@. Oh well thanks to both of you anyway.
Hey Theob,
A couple of thoughts about the Juli@.
First off, your profile shows a crossover for the bass right. I dont know how you have things but that usually means running the mains full range. YOu could use a vst plugin crossover to send a crossed over signal to the main speakers and perhaps take some strain off of things.
Another thought is that maybe you could use the analog outs of the Juli@ for the bass and ditch the outboard crossover you have. I am betting the analog outs of the Juli@ just might be better than the crossover you have.
Well I think it at least might require some extra thought specific to your system.
Yes you have it right. Here is my signal flow:
Pc I2S--> Buf32s--> XLR out--> y connector--> one feed to electronic bass crossover, one feed to high freq amp --> speaker external crossover --> speaker.
If I used a vst plugin to send a high pass signal to the speaker yes I could eliminate the speaker crossover but how would I get a full range signal to my bass crossover or even a low pass signal? Now that I said that I guess I would have to use analogue out from juli@. But juli@ only has one set of analogue outs.
Hey Theob,
This is more of an educated guess on my part at this point but I think it is sound.
You should be able to do something like use the digital out AND the analog out:
Pc I2S--> Buf32s--> XLR out high pass to speaker amp
PC Juli@ analog out---> Low pass to sub.
It would come down to the asio drivers, but I am guessing that such a mapping would work.
DR here's the thing: if I use digital (via I2S) out I can't use analogue out because the analogue board needs to be installed into main juli@ board via I2S pin outs plus other pins. So I can have one or another not both. I think I am doomed unless I get another sound card.

Hey thanks for your interest in trying to help me. Means a lot.
Hey Leif,
Take all the credit you want. All I know is that we have it now and it has changed cmp2 for the better. Come to think of it, I didnt know what a vst was until you told me :).
Theob...Play-mate details a way to use a crossover and get ANALOG out of the pc.
There is a way to get DIGITAL out of the computer. Using something like the Lynx Aes-16 and its multiple digital outs to multiple dacs is probably the best way to do it...but the cost is crazy which is why I went with the Lynx 2b (what a bargain for 3 high quality dacs).
Also, it might not exactly fit in with the cmp2 concept, but a middle ground between cost and crossovers would be some of the firewire units like the RME Fireface or the Lynx Aurora....
