Awesome DEX that you have joined the club. That was the experience I had too. Amazing that the same hardware can sound so much better when you get the computer optimized correctly.
SOunds like a great system.
THough I dont understand the need for foobar if you are using cmp.
What is up with THAT?

Well, my system is based on low power Via EPIA (VIA C3 cpu), which AFAIK has only SSE support (no SSE2/3). I like epia because my pc draws no more than 15w, and I can use 3A@12V linear PSU at less than half of its power to feed the system via picoPSU. Out of all versions that I've tried (including 2.0b7, b9 which are supposed to work), only cPlay v1.0 works for me... I am yet to compare v1.0 vs foobar.

AH, that explains it.
I have a similar computer that I used to use and was trying to set it up to be a headphone setup and ran in to that issue myself.
IIRC there is a version like #15 or 16 that is the last that supported sse.
True I never had a linear psu on my via c3, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the recommended hardware and the latest version of cplay would sound better. It certainly is better than what I could do with the via.
Given your situation, I would try multistream asio player if you can.
