hi,
here are some Photos from the way of adding the condensators to the several voltage headers.I used low ESRs with a capacitance of ( added) 15000µF per voltage ( 3V, 5V, and 12V)and some little styroflex with 3900pF.
Additional i did some to the powerstrip of the xonar d2x, which sounds now a lot better than esi juli ( sorry).More substancial, more and tighter bass and higher resolution.
I use the digital out for the stereo loudspeaker and the analog out for the dual subwoofer. The analog out is also very good .bye

Dear Alfred,
Concerning the above: have you compared this to MINLOGON?
I would like to know.
This weekend I get to work on the added capacitance!!!
Thanks again,
Rick McInnis

rick did you implement minlogon? this is my last optimization to do and I'm a little unsure of the steps. Also since I have xp pro (not sp2 or 3) I'm not sure it is feasible.

I do not know.
I get the feeling that cics thinks that SP2 is something needed.
I have also heard that sometimes when one installs SP2 into a non-SP2 set-up that problems can arise.
You must hope that cics will give his opinion on this.
I can tell you that if you do everything right MINLOGON is easy but I must add that I screwed it up the first few times, just like with JULI@, so I got lots of practice.
If you mess up you will have to re-install WINDOWS.
Did you put WINDOWS on a separate sector of your hard drive? If you did not, maybe you should start over and do this. It makes making a mistake simple. Otherwise, you end up replacing your music files when a reinstall is required.
When you are implementing MINLOGON, I discovered in my system DO NOT put anything else in the name, simply minlogon. No dot anything!!!
Just proceed carefully and all will go fine.
Another thing that might help: create your registry change files on another machine and save them on a memory stick. You are going to need to download the registry editor anyway. Use the text as supplied by cics and you are assured of it being correct.
If you are not in a hurry I will send them to you this evening. They are in my home machine. I could send you the registry editor program, also.
When doing the registry editing if you have ANY suspicion something has gone wrong, leave the program and start over. This will help eliminate the chance of re-installing WINDOWS. If I can send you the modified file, I will. But, it may not be allowed as an email since one can do much mischief with this kind of thing. I will try.
So, if you are not in a hurry, I will send this stuff to you this evening.
Bye,
Rick McInnis
PS Theo, I am impressed that you installed the BNC!!!

thanks rick. I'm still hesitant about minlogon. yes the mechasnics are complicated enough but because I don't have xp pro sp2 I'm wondering if its even feasible. I'm impressed you got minlogon to work (it doesn't matter how many times you tried). did you get a big sonic improvement with it? Yes if it is not too much trouble I would be happy to receive your files.
Hopefully cics can comment on this.

hi,
this mini windows xp includes the minlogon. It takes abaout 20-24 MB inthe RAM. Whats about Your RAM-load?

Alfred,
The one thing that I wonder about is what happens after the header/motherboard?
Are all of the 12 volts leads in parallel? One wonders if one should add capacitance to each 12 volts lead if they are being directed to specific parts of the board. Of course this question is the same for the 5 volts, 3.3 volts and the ground leads.
If they are all the same then your elegant approach is the way to go, but if this is not the case, would it be better to distribute the added capacitors among all of the leads?
I can see the sense of using multiple (flexible) leads istead of one large lead for convenience sake. Nonetheless, the way the wires are distributed within the header does not make this an obvious conlusion.
I am sure they are all connected to the same place in the power supply but fear that is not the case at the motherboard.
I would appreciate your comments.
Thanks, again,
Rick McInnis

rick,
all voltages are parallel, but distance to the mobo matters. So i did condensators for the 3V and 5V near to the 24 Pin Haeder of the mobo and the condensators for 12V near the 4Pin header which feeds the CPU.Be aware of providing some little capacitances bypassing .
Some thoughts to the xonar S-card:Very dynamic , much information but till now a littlebit harsh in comparison to the juli. So i hesitate to recomment. The PC is still a black box, little changes create heaven ,others suicide.
greetings to all obsessives

Dear Alfred,
Thanks for the clarification.
I look forward to hearing more about this soundcard.
Does a PCI EXPRESS card have its own power supply header? I have never seen one. I got my EA430 power supply yesterday and noticed (I had cut off the extraneous connectors to my current supply) that there is a PCI EXPRESS power wire (a 6 wires connector). I know my board has no place for this to go so am I assuming correctly that this would be attached directly to the card? This would obviously make it simple to poer the card spearately which would help me understand what you and carcass93 have been talking bout. Excuse my ignorance and thanks for all of the help!
I am grateful you are even more obsessive than me.
Thanks,
Rick McInnis

rick,
xonar is fed by a floppy header, which provides 5 (red) and 12V (yellow).
So it is simple to do an amelioration. I think it is sufficiant to do the condensators to the leads ,because of the good quality of the antec earthwatt instead of an additional PS.So it keeps things simpler.
Meanwhile i try to find a way between the more laid back of the juli and the dynamics of the xonar .

Dear Alfred,
I knew a picture would help since I had not thought of doing it the way you did it, which, of course, now that I see it is the OBVIOUS way of doing it well.
Thanks very much. Now I can get to work with confidence.
I like those BC capacitors, too. I am using ELNA SILMICS, just thought I would give them a try.
I am going to look into the soundcard you mention.
Thanks for the help and inspiration,
Rick McInnis

Great stuff, can you add some more picures...? How did you do the power-setup of the soundcard ?
