I recently signed up for the 30 day trial of Tidal. I set it up in Volumio which also requires a subscription that I'm on a 15 day trial of.
It works pretty well and the sound quality seems pretty spot on, but I'm wondering if there is a better way to do this.
Looking around the internet the suggested solutions center around non Raspberry Pi solutions or streaming to your MPD from your phone using UPnP.
Volumio seems to be the only option that allows me to access Tidal natively on my Raspberry Pi, but I'm not sure I want to pay $9 a month to have it on two devices in addition to the $30 a month that Tidal costs for multiple devices.
Follow Ups:
I use Roon but it's not cheap. You did ask for "the best way" ;-)I can login to Tidal & Qobuz via Roon and have access to my locally ripped music as well as the entire Tidal & Qobuz libraries integrated together on-screen.
All of this is controlled from my iPad and streamed over the network to my Raspberry Pi and Sonore microRendu.

I tried Roon a long time ago. The SQ was fine as long as I used Volumio as the access point, but I hated pretty much everything else about Roon and could not see paying $500 for it.
Alright Cut-Throat. We've gone rounds about this, but I'll bite. Which version of PCP should I get? Last time I was willing to try it, there hadn't been an "audio optimized" in years and that old version did not impress in the SQ department.
I use version 7.0 of Picoreplayer. This is the most recent version and I find the sound quality as good as anything else I've used in my system. (Oh, and I've tried Volumio in the past -- sound quality was the same as PCP but I found it buggy in other ways.)

I fought my way through installing and setting up the 64 bit version of 7.0 last night. The process is definitely not novice friendly, but I got through it enough to have Tidal working and outputting to my Digione.
I have done a mix of critical and non critical listening and at least on my headphone system in the bedroom it's not bad.
A shootout on the main system will be required to really know if PCP is a keeper in the SQ department.
As far as the user experience goes there are some pluses and minuses, but no deal breakers so far.
You can use PiCorePlayer and it supports Tidal and Qobuz with zero subscription fees, and is much better in every way than Volumio.
