I have run my digital front end off:
The upgrade to High Sierra knee capped it. Installed 16GB RAM pack and Pure Music runs smooth again. My battery pack is a little swollen and was making track pad operation stiff. I loosened that up while I was inside. It still boots a little slow, but I rarely shutdown.

Follow Ups:
I'm still using my mid 2010 Mac Mini as the server in my main system. I upgraded to 8GB of RAM and an internal SS drive (with an external drive for my music) some years ago and it still works fine. High Sierra is the last OS software it's capable of running though so when I have to upgrade the OS software in my 2015 Macbook Pro beyond that I'll probably have to look for something else to replace the Mini. I've had problems controlling the Mini with the MB when the OSs were different.
Don't have any idea what I'll get though. I'm leery of proprietary gear from small companies and I want something plug and play. Not something like a RPi that takes work to setup and maintain, even if the price is very appealing.
My 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro is still working great after a couple upgrades:
- Added 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM several years ago.
- Replaced the swollen battery with one off Amazon.
- Had to eventually replace the Bluetooth module as it was starting to act flaky with my wireless Bluetooth mouse & keyboard.
But alas, it was repurposed in 2019 and my daily driver computer that lives in the desk drawer is now a newer Mac Mini.
I ran my old iMac over 10 years. When my current iMac's drive failed I rebooted the old one and tried to use it. It still worked but wouldn't run anything worthwhile. You could barely browse the web with it with the old browser. It was severely limited by the 32 bit chip, the last model made with it, and the 10.6.8 OS.
