I think it is $399 for the updated connect called the Port, Sonos spent a lot of time on the built in DAC.
I see it has SPDIF output. I'm waiting to see if any botique shop steps up with some modification options but the form factor seems impressive. I called Sonos and they said of course they support Connect still.
The software is absolutely rock solid. Many many services supported which is why I love the Sonos software. I currently use a modded Connect from wyred4sound in CA but I've also seen at least one other company offering mods.
Follow Ups:
As usual there is a dearth of technical information on the Sonos website. Just the assertion that the DAC is "better". No information on the DAC chip used. No information on whether the high levels of noise and jitter prevalent in the Connect have been reduced.
I have a Connect that was a huge sonic disappointment after my Slim Devices Squeezebox Touch, which I sold because of software hassles and concern about the longevity of the touch screen. I had to hook up an iFi SPDIF iPurifier and a Schiit Modi Multibit to the Connect to get comparable sound to the former.
It would be nice to scale down from three pieces - with their associated cables/cords/power supplies - to one unit. Guess I'll have to see how the reviews stack up.
Wyred4Sound and pay for an upgrade.
You'll likely get something back that sounds both better than you nightmare of adapters and filters as well as better than Sonus' new box.
Or, wait patiently until 'bullethead' tires of his and offers it free to the first poster to claim it! :-)
I only have one filter: the iFi SPDIF iPurifier. That goes into my Schiit Modi Multibit external DAC.
The Wyred For Sound Mod is designed to be used with an external DAC. So the choice was between $150 for the iFi or $550 for the WFS. Being this is for a second system for background listening (Audioengine A5+ powered speakers), I felt the latter was overkill and went with the former.
I tried using the iFi SPDIF iPurifier with the wyred 4 sound optical out and spdif out, that's crazy!
It is unfortunate for them to not disclose anything. They are not in the high end market, I believe they don't think anyone cares.
about the Port having better sound.
Limited to 16/44.1 ?
Doesn't say.
the rep on the Sonos line says same PCM specs as connect. That's 16bit 48khz.
Asked earlier, is anyone able to get CD quality "Amazon HD" on their Sonos?
thanks
if so, is it automatic , i didnt see an Amazon HD app to get the better resolution.
yep, it is automatic. I love the Amazon HD service. Once you upgrade to HD your amazon account upgrades you. Make sure you are logged into the amazon app with the same account as your HD service.
Is it Red Book or higher?

It plays full CD quality without issue.
I called Sonos and asked them about that. For $399 don't expect high resolution.
What DAC are you running the Sonos through? I have a NOS DAC in my stereo cabinet that is 16/44 just collecting dust.

I'm using an Auralic Vega.
It plays full CD quality without issue.
"Full CD Quality"? Is that like...

yes, $399 "CD" player :)
It's Sonos, 16/44 max.
When they discover the center of the universe, a lot of people will be disappointed to discover they are not it. ~ Bernard Bailey
Thanks, I had a Connect for 5-6 years and BH turned me on to the Wyred-4-Sound mod which really improved it. The Connect was a real workhorse and if the Port can do higher Rez I might spring for one in a second system. Great products

I'll be one of the first to check out mods with the port, my budget is $1k.
The connect really is nice modded, we don't expect more than HDCD but the software is the missing link, the Sonos software is great.
